Contracts?

Which are the best firms to approach for continental contracts at the moment?

Not sure myself but Derijke seems to be mentioned a fair bit. Just phone them all up asking for rates.

I’m not sure but as an O/d you dont really want to have a “contract” as this would mean you losing your exemption to the wtd

Just because you’ve got a contract with a firm, doesn’t mean you’re not self-employed. Self-emp drivers are exempt from the WTD until 2009.

Depends what he’s meaning by contracts.

Obviously you will still have a contract for each load you take, but you don’t want to be having an overall contract that limits you to only working for that one company or, as you say, you lose your WTD exemption.

i can’t think of any that will give a contract out that may actually hold them liable to keep an operator working.
most offer a contract which you sign to confirm that you will adhere to their working practices, that you will not approach any of their customers to offer your services direct, that you will be held responsible for loss or damage to their goods or equipment or both.
basically most won’t guarantee you anything but expect you to guarantee everything.
