£10.40 per hour at JCB

In today’s business desk news JCB require 600 extra production people to cope with increasing demand. They quote a rate of £10.40 basic with premium rates for other hours worked.Any of your mechanically minded individuals fancy a change?

Don’t waste your time, I’m from a family where most the males have worked at Rochester. The old man having recently retired from a very senior position, hire and fire!! Every year they take on and then dump them with in 12 months, they have there ‘own’ agency partner that supplies labour, one day off and your down the road, jcb was once a great job good terms, good holidays, good xmas bonus… it ain’t now, I’d prefer to be in the truck earning steady money all year round

As above, every year around now they announce hundreds of jobs…then lay everyone off early December.

Let’s hope they struggle to recruit. Having experienced this practice myself many moons ago in a time of high unemployment I would hope they have a rethink. It’s a very demoralising experience.

37 hour week [emoji52]

How much of their work is exported to the US? [emoji53]

brother worked for them on the office side. Apparently it was common for folk to turn in to work as per normal , be told with no warning they were finished as of now and be escorted by security from off the premises . He said it was expected as a salaried employee that you worked late and /or take work home with you often .think he said the son of the original JCB owner wasnt nice .
He told me was glad to leave - few years later met up with colleagues and turned out theyd all been finished and moved away -not one worked for JCB or lived locally any more

That’s what normal people work. Seems only in this industry people aren’t happy unless they’re doing 60 or more.

£370 + per week. I live close to all the JCB plants, near Rocester and the 11 month contract gets you nothing unless you want a terrace in Stoke

Can’t you move about within the company if you manage to bag a job there though, production line jobs are never safe no matter where you are.

My best mate works for them on the engine test cells and they’ve looked after him, putting him through a degree, decent pay etc

The founder of JCB was …interesting.

Joe Bamford… worked for his uncle at a company called Bamfords…and was sacked and told to his face that he was an idiot.

He went home, built a tipping trailer, and took it to the local cattle market where he sold it to a local farmer.

Then lots of locals wanted a trailer …so he built loads more. Then he invented the ‘JCB’ backhoe loader…the originals of which were built on Ford tractors.

Ford got a bit envious of his success, and started to ramp the price of the tractors up.

He invited some senior people from Ford to the opening of a new plant. When they got there they were seated around a pit in the factory floor. A Ford-based JCB was driven into the hall, and the driver got out. Then two new JCBs, with the vehicle built in-house around a bought-in engine, appeared. One pushed the Ford JCB into the pit, and the other started dumping concrete in on top of it. The men from Ford were told it was time for them to leave!

His son is, shall we say, not quite of the same type.

Dear me, there’s some crap on here I think that last bit was out of a gangster movie. Like so many jobs, they change. It doesn’t pay to have long term workers, flexibility is everything. You can go there and earn big bucks, there’s plenty of overtime. However don’t get to comfy one drop in orders and management don’t hang about. It’s the same in our game… the whole employment world in this country is cabbaged for good… regards taking work home. When I was living at my mums, the phone would go at all hours but that was his job. How many off us answer the phone out of hours, how many of us answer the phone and then reset our 9 hr rest break ( as answering would be other work)

I am surprised to read some of the things in this thread, because not too long ago jobs at Bentley and JCB were considered highly desirable, although I suppose that JCB is very vulnerable to downturns in the construction world.

JCB seem to change there policies quite frequently , started a policy of using UK hauliers again for export work , asked for rates and were quite ok , then after that switch back to cheapest option and 'we only pay this ’ attitude , thought they were getting ready for brexit and finding reliable U.K. Hauliers at rate suitable for them and supplier ! But no back to bum logistics rates !!

^^
I see numerous yellow Brit European wagons with JCB’s loaded on the A38 between bassets pole and Tamworth daily and have done for the nearly 4 years I’ve been at JLR(my commute route to solihul)

No, it’s just that in real terms (£10.40 x 37) x 52 = 20k a year which would mean an unaffordable pay cut for many lorry drivers.

37 hours a week would be lovely, but the hourly rate would need to be around £15ph for it to be a feasible move.

Nothing to see here!

Exactly, and you can’t rely on overtime or continuous employment.

Brit European are advertising for low loader drivers on the JCB contract at the moment, looks fair money.
