C 849 TRS, Daf 2100 n/a, 16 tonner fridge for Grampian Country Chickens out of Bucksburn, 1986. Only had about 2.5k on it and was mine for about 3 years. Hoor of a noisy Kubota engine right above me, what!

Just acquired as new by RM in 1991 at the time I passed my test…
Double declutching, so-called “Syncromesh” box that used to crunch away if you didn’t do the DD shuffle, half-floor with the clutch pedal, then fully floor it to shift…
If memory serves, a certain driver trainer who had resisted me ever having a shot at HGV training - put one of these roadtrain cabs through a plate glass shop window in Maidstone shortly after…
Don’t remember any further snide remarks from the geezer after that, as he was “Early Retired” in due course…

The one I had misfortune to drive had a 10 speed Spicer gearbox in it, clunky as heck !
Although it was the open backed lefthand drive version in Germany and also had an A-frame drag attached. We would put 6x cluster bombs (on stillages, inside cages) on the truck and 6 more on the drag. Throw a tarp over and rope both stacks, taking them everyday between Gutersloh and Sennalager as we modded the complete stock.
