every time i came down the M50 and into monmouth i waved at the welcome to wales sign so its a continuing habit i guess

Funny that, most people from the right side of the border pray when they get to that sign.

Hows about, Coming down the birdlip hill on the way into gloucester…just off swindon bypass (A38 i think).
On a clear sunny day, the views are amazing, you can see for miles around, It sometimes pays just to pull up in the layby and take it all in. Thats why (although a brummie from roots) i like living round here, some of the views have got to be the best in the /country.

LOL, no i havent......yet, but im sure i`ll have the pleasure one day

When i used to do scotch, up the big hill after the junction for carnforth on the M6 past another junction at the top of the hill, then the drop down into Beck foot, with the old disused viaduct to the right, sharp left hand bend nice big mountain to your right just before tebay junction… Stunning, also, no radio or phone signals for about 5mins…

I liked the view of the air balloon once when going up- the bearings went in the gearbox and lost all gears that are off of positions 1 and 2 on a 12 speed box! RELIEVED OR WHAT!

Good pub, GREAT FOOD!. another one is the highwayman, right at the top.
A419 bypass. i call it the lonley highway cus its baron for about 12 miles and on a windy day, all that openess causes winds that could flip over a fatman on a tandem! :unamused:

And you frequently get “buzzed” by RAF Harriers. one time I was looking DOWN on a couple of RAFTornados chasing each other along the valley floor!

It was closed last time we went by, but the Halfway House on Minchinhampton Common was fantastic when we went there about 2/3 years ago. Anyone know if it’s re-opened? It’s somewhat better than the Glider cafe

What about the biggest eyesore you see?
Imagine this, to the west you have the rolling hills of the cotswolds, to the south, the Berkshire downs and white horse hill, to the east, the chilterns, and to the north the rolling Oxfordshire plain. And what is stuck right in the middle? DIDCOT BLOODY POWER STATION!

Yeah lovely isn’t it? Though I think we should be careful not to derail the thread & perhaps start a new one?
