your right mate,
john gave me a couple of cd,s worth of snaps.
south wigston, i remember doing that a few times, chilled only mind so we tipped on the side street.mind you you would,nt get a 44 down the alleyway.
Blimey, and I thought some of my drops had tight access.
Breath in! OMG, I have trouble getting into a 50ft wide gap lol
pity jammymuts not around… b+q at grantham… about the same as robs pics! and your reversing from a bright yard into darkness
British Gypsums finger bays at East Leake with a brand new trailer . If anyone’s been their, you’ll know what they’re like

You certainly wouldn’t want to go near that alley with a 44!!!
I’ve only ever took a 27 in there, but last time I went, we did the business on the road at the top of the alley.
When I arrived the vet came running out to watch because the wall he’d had rebuilt two days earlier had already been knocked over by one of ours!
The store manager has now agreed to tip on the road and pump truck the pallets to the back door.
Oh what fun we have!!

I worked out of there for a year when it was Irlams yard; about the most dificult bays I have ever had to use.
It wasn’t quite so bad when I covered for the yard shunter a few times (shunt tug! ) and I can honestly say I didn’t ever knack any trailers but I saw plenty who did!
There was a bloke in there called Dave who was the yard man / shunter for Eldis who also had a lot of loads out of there (it was actually a TDG place). He had an old DAF 95 as his shunt motor and was one of the best i’ve seen going backwards!! A few times A-frame (i.e. 4 wheel) trailers came in to load and 90% of the time it was Dave who backed them into those (stupid) bays because the drivers couldn’t.
pirrelli at carlisle have bays like that as well but you have to go up a incline to get in, bit of a [zb] in the rain, they have planks down the side of the bay to guide you in so you don’t mash the brick work.
when i say planks i mean splintered bits of wood from to much bad reversing.its also one of those where you go from day light to darkness
jon
Yeah has anyone noticed how they’re really impatient to get you in and are wondering why you’re taking your time
It’s because I can’t see all in my mirrors pal, that’s why I’m going steady.
Would love to see them reverse a 45 footer in like we do. Plebs.

And has anyone noticed that they always seem to put those big sodium lamps that light up the yard at night at just the right height to shine squarely into your mirros so you cannot see past the glare

Sounds exactly like Michelin, because of the mega trailers we have to back them up onto chocks as well, to get enough height for the loading ramps.
Best fun of all though is backing onto the ferry with your mirrors folded in, then finding you have to be so close that you have to climb through the window
Oh my God, after reading this little lot and looking at these pics I now know i’m in the wrong job. I did about as much reversing as I had to, to get me through my test and in 2 and a half years I still havn’t improved any. I know how to do it in my head but behind the wheel it all goes to pot Oh yes and you old hands are always there to watch too. People say it will come to you just like that ! but i think it missed me out.
hi malc what michelin do you deliver to??

There are Michelin factories all over the world.
Dont send Pm’s
It makes you sound like a truck thief
Has anyone loaded out of the ‘MIN’ (wholesale market) in Nantes?
The bays are so close together that when reversing into the gap between two trucks you have about 2" between your mirrors and the next bloke. There are lines on the ground but it is very exacting, especially at night.
All of them lined up makes a good picture though, one day when I am passing I’ll nip in and take one.
There used to be a KW Aerodyne in there most nights. Looked very nice, sticking out a metre proud but was dwarfed in height by some of the Euro trucks.
Salut, David.
Rob K:
It’s exactly the same here at HP Sauce at Birmingham too :
Thats now…6 years ago you had to back into the building like that a good 200 feet. I used to haul out of there 4 nights a week…I hated it…I had to run all the way up to Earlstown sit there 3-4 hours to tip a load, then run down to HP Birmingham to grab 48 pallets to go back to Leicester.
Some nights we had to leave Leicester to Earlstown…tip there and reload for HP Birmingham then down to Bristol…drop the trailer and grab an empty then over to Neasden London…drop and hook there and back to Leicester…Not one of us ever done it legal…and that was working for a major UK logistics company.
