You want it backing in where?

Basically I find these places just looking for smaller ind est on my maps. Or just drive around till i find something that looks promising.

Anyone who needs to park up after tipping at Weybridge can go to the right out of gate and there’s some empty factories up that road with big car parks just waiting for overnight truckers. Take a left turn off when the road goes around in a right bend and there’s a big parking area at the factory straight ahead on right side of road just as the road bends to the left.
Go to the far end of the parking area as the front is used as car park during day time. If we behave and don’t upset other users nobody will mind we’re there and it’s a blissfully little hideaway. Very quiet too. Please take your rubbish with you !!!

There’s quite a few about like that. I remember years ago when I used to do agency work for Bedford’s, we used to do drop & swaps up at a furniture place up the top side of Halifax which had an equally tight reverse into a warehouse like that. There was always a set procedure to dropping your trailer off and we all failed so, so many times with it. :frowning:

Because it was so tight, you had to :

  1. Remove reg plate
  2. Wind legs down
  3. Undo curtain buckles
  4. Remove susies (except the red)
  5. Pull the pin

All BEFORE reversing in :exclamation: :exclamation:

You try reversing an unhitched trailer up hill into a narrow gap without engaging the pin :open_mouth: :exclamation: A whole bunch of fun and certainly sorted the men out from the boys :sunglasses:

I been there, Rob… wasn’t it RAM kitchens■■?

I think it could well have been. We used to deliver to that DIY chain’s RDC down at Brack Mills (not B&Q, the other one, lessor known). It’s right down the far end of the road on the left after you go past John Lewis’s at Brack Mills. The bloody name escapes me right now.

Hartshead Moor on the westbound side is a challenging reverse for anyone in all honesty. I see loads of drivers struggle there and much horn-blasting from the truckers at either side when their mirrors are about to be taken off.

im glad you say that cos ive struggled at hartshead and it dosent help when the cars go through there as well trying to sneak round and then the pressure is on cos everybody is watching.

how do get on reversing the cf rob loads of drivers i know reckon its hard work.
i dont know if its the little steering wheel or the steering lock.

It’s funny you should mention that JD, because I am pretty good at reversing but I do struggle with the CF. Like you, I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly though. I never seem to be able to get straight on a bay first time round, it either overcuts or undercuts and I have to do a shunt but if I was in a Scania or an FH then I’d be on and be straight first go. I can’t be sure, but they seem to take ages to go from lock to lock and don’t turn anywhere near as quick as an FH does. I’ve heard a lot of XF drivers moan about the lack of lock but I’ve no idea if it’s the same steering components on the CF as they are on the XF.

I shall fit my steering wheel knob on Monday and see if that improves things.

my nomination has got to be the worst place in the world to deliver.

Jarmac Oleochemicals on Lancashire Hill in Stockport.

back in off the main road blindside, then a 90 degree right, just over the length of the trailer, then it gets narrrow as you reverse between 2 lines of parked cars and an overhanging building. then it is another blind reverse under the loading point.

Woe betide you if you had a split load and have to visit Nelstrops weighbridge twice :stuck_out_tongue: Good practice though

All these tight tips are getting very common. It’s a conspiracy to keep us all thin and healthy so they can get another 5 years out of us until they solve the driver shortage problem
