me number plate’s now been changed to M400MVF for some of the ‘who seen who’ spotters
i might re-visit that bridge as it’s not too far out of my way for some farms so i might try to get back there for updated pic , knowing my luck it’s 7.5 weight limit now
Hi this is the first lorry i drove when i was 21 years old at a place called south alloa scotland,We had mammoth majors ,fodens buffalos, and bisons ,great job back then.
Forty years ago…bit of maintenance while waiting for customs clearance at Villa-Formosa…Spanish /Portuguese… border.
The exhaust bracket had broken, took it off, the local garage welded it up, re-fitted…cost a packet of cigarettes …always carried a tool box and a few spares…no telephoning for a breakdown assistance…fix it yourself, or stuck for days…!!
Finished repairs, cleaned up, and off out for dinner…and yep. no sleeper cabs in those days, mostly in hotels and the odd night across the bonnet if really stuck…and…
I would say this shot is nearly 43 years old, stood behind my D1000 which if IIRC I’d just loaded for Stamford St. from Libby’s in Milnthorpe. I was ready for a bath and bed as I’d just come up on a flyer from Covent Garden overnight and tipped in Barrow at 5 a.m. then they wanted me to load for London pronto in the factory. I was off again on a flyer at midnight to be at Sainsbury’s next morning ,early!! It was all flying up and down in those day’s,you felt like a zombie at times, you couldn’t do enough!! But I wasn’t as 'andsome as that “poser” Dave Fergie in the previous post!!! Talk about “smooth” I bet those French birds were quaking in their knickers!! Cheers Dennis.

I see the “■■■■■■■■ badge on the back of the old Ford, wasn’t to disguise the fact it had a 240 LXB in it was it ? no wonder you were flying around in those days…

Many years ago at the Royal Norfolk Show in 1974, the photo was taken by Foden’s PR man Tony Smith. He took several of me, I think he must have liked me.
