Hello Dalesman,

Unfortunately my grandad and great uncle Ken aren’t with us any longer, so I’m not totally clear on the business side of things (as a kid I was only really interested in the livestock and riding in the wagon).

Speaking to my dad and uncle, we’re pretty sure that their last wagon and the business did get sold on to Neal Kinder (Tom’s son) at Mere Beck.

The Walter Dib thing I’m less sure about.

Kind regards

Simon

Thanks to everyone who’s contributed to the thread so far.

Hi Bewick
I think it was ■■■■ Harrison who bought the last of Coward’s wagons, he had a garage in the centre of Sedbergh. He later went on to sell motor bikes, he still lives there.
Another livestock wagon owner I have remembered was Malcolm Skidmore, The auctionear at Hellifield, he had a Bedford TM if I remeber right. It was driven by Ernest Lund from Long Preston, he later took it over, and went into hay & straw also.

Regards Dalesman

Would you buy a used truck from this man? :open_mouth:

The Pig Improvement Company always makes me smile. How? different colour, manicured trotters, chocolate orange flavour!

Greenwoods again, is that an Ergo cabbed motor from the 1960’s in the background? Anyone have a pic…

Some cracking photos starting to come through, keep’em coming please.

Hello Jonto,

Yeah I believe it’s a 1968 (G Reg) 6x4 Leyland Retriever, perhaps it’s the one Boden was referring to that was originally owned by Tom Watson.

Not sure I have any pictures, but I will look.

Kind regards

Simon

Hi,

Greenwoods Retriever was a 69 H plate. I’ll hazard a guess and say thats the one in the background. It originally had what appeared to be the body of his previous TK with the canopy removed and lengthened though not long after had the same make of body fitted as Tom Watson’s wagon, which was on a F plate. John Robinson told me Tom went back to farming some time in the early 70’s and certainly Greenwoods used his wagon in its original blue and white colours for a while. I well remember Ashworths twin steer AEC’S’s with the Mark 3 cab in Ripon, I’m surmising they must have pulled out of livestock transport in the mid 60’s.

Hello,

Plowman’s DAF 3600 ATI Space Cab with Drawbar trailer.

Loved the old DAF 3600’s and this is a smart example.

Plowman Bros (York) currently build livestock containers, but I really don’t know much about this motor, so if anyone can help out with some info that would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Simon

It certainly is Simon - could lose the number plates and flags, and maybe 4 of the spots, but i’am a fussy bleeder

It does look a little like it’s been driven directly into a CDC Truck Accessories stand. Tarting up aside; it’s a great motor. Cheers Simon.
