i was in a queue of traffic today and i was just about to go through the traffic lights. i inched my way over the white line as the traffic was moving again. it is pretty depatable whether i went through a red light or not. but as i went through the lights an other car went past in the outside lane which was free, ans as we both went through the light the speed camera flashed… now im worried was it me flashed for running a red or was it him for speeding… i was in my car not a wagon
so my question is, does those cameras flash you for running a red or was it the pther guy being flashed…
if it was at a set of traffic lights then it was a redlight camera as far as im aware they take a picture of the back of your veihcle as you go throught the traffic light
Hi Folks
I’ve never heard of red light camera’s. I’ve gone through hundred’s of red lights and never been flashed yet? It sounds more like a speed camera to me.

If it was a yellow camera then it was probably a speed camera.
If it was grey its probably a red light camera.
However if the traffic lights are only on at peak times, or its a camera that’s been converted from red light to speed then It could be either.
The chances are, if it was situated at the traffic lights, it will be a red light camera and will have got you for going over the line by X amount when the light is red.

tachograph:
Are red light cameras sometimes yellow ?
Offhand I can’t remember seeing any that weren’t grey.
Tachograph,
If you look in the link Denis posted it mentions some being converted from traffic light cameras to speed cameras at the same position.
So I guess that could mean a yellow camera in a place where a grey one might normally be ?

I’m probably missing something here but it doesn’t say anything about the camera being replaced by a speed camera, well not unless there’s a law that says speed cameras have to be yellow, they could be converting them to do both, well that’s the way I read it anyway
A news story that appeared in the Daily Mail newspaper reported that the Home Office plan to turn over 1,000 traffic light cameras into speed cameras. “More than 1,000 traffic-cameras used to catch drivers jumping red lights are to converted so they can also trap speeders”.
The traffic light camera was originally used to measure red light offences. Nowadays the camera can also be used in combination with speed measurement, similar to that of a Gatso speed camera. So you could end with a speeding offence as well as a traffic light offence, if you go through a red light camera!

Hi Folks,
I’m a first class driver and take great pride in the standard of my driving!
Your leaving yourself wide open for some leg pull, read your previous message about going through loads of red lights then read the above
If it was a redlight camera it will have a pressure pad either side of the white line, this helps them calculate your speed AND the time after the red that you went through. It will register which lane went through the red first if you both went through they will have a christmas bonus Two for One LOL !!!

This origional post was about speed cam’s and red light cam’s and i think we should stick to it.

p.s you need to ask the question, who drives an LGV C, is trained to a very high standard and is legally allowed to go through red lights?..nuff said!
I thought a enforcement (what a term!) camera could only be used for one “task” at a time. I may be wrong, but that was my understanding, more than happy to be corrected!

Unfortunately you can’t rely on that anymore. They can be painted any colour they like. The highup ones on a pole are digital… there are a bunch of variants.
