Wreckers/recovery trucks

Here’s one we hired from NYR in Snodland. We needed it when we were providing cover on the Sheffield section of the M1 roadworks. Bit of a beast with a turning circle akin to a supertanker!

They used to let me loose with this

I took this at Rownhams wb

Thanks. Was that on spec or did they ask you to?

This was just a bit top heavy so careful round corners or I’ll be needing recovery as well

A good old F12 from Shipton’s Recovery, ballasted down to nearly max weight, used most days, & seen here recovering a Scania road sweeper with a clutch problem from Sutton Coldfield to Derby.

Interesting work Rob, brings back memories of me towing stuff in with an ex Army Morris Commercial quad back in the 60’s, an ex Fire Brigade Morris Commercial NVS in the 70’s, and dragging eight leggers in on a straight bar from all around England with the nearest Foden that we could find at Tilcon:shock: A good job that Mr Shipton has a West Midlands specialist he can call on…

Pete.

Not only West Midlands Pete, here’s one I fetched from West Yorkshire on Saturday, Bradford to be precise, poor driver had been on a building site, being escorted round by 2 banksmen, he drove through some muddy water and ripped the bottom out of the radiator on a piece of Re-bar that was sticking up, something to do with the front end of the lorry only having about a foot clearance from the ground.

couple more

Here’s one for Mike P, we tried to take as much care as possible while we had it following us, just as we had dropped it in your yard Phil was on the phone, sent us to Kegworth for a loaded 8 wheeler to Ashbourne, he also sent help in the form of AJ, as Dave was ready for home by then, he looks ready for home in the picture don’t you think?

I suggested to your driver he could take the Seddon Atkinson out until his Scania was mended but I think you could say he politely refused the offer.

The Stock Port Truck Cent Foden is Ex Millers Of Longton, I drove that a few time when the Tom the drive was off.

Leicester Commercial Centre. DAF CF 75.360 32ft flatbed recovery. This beauty is sent all over the country, collecting ex TP stock. As you can see, shes just bought an 18tonner back to our yard from Cardiff. Amazing truck, and sounds mint!
