I agree with that. Ollie has almost reached the important 2 years C+E experience according to his posts, he has had a varied career so far, but now he can go with his head held high to any company he chooses with a CV, a handful of employer references and a good idea what the job is about and what questions to ask before signing the contract.
And with a bit of luck any prospective employer doesn’t spend time browsing Trucknet

I worked for several companies who rewarded you for a “good” day. It would look quite strange to write too many 17 hour shifts on your timesheet, but you could always book a few extra nights out

Ollie, you would net a bit extra to run in on Saturday so ■■■■ it up. Those that you perceive as your persecutors are all experienced in the ways of this industry, far more so that you. This convenience age we live in demands absolute flexibility from drivers. You probably like the idea of trotting to the supermarket on a late night to get your tube of Pringles, well that convenience is delivered by the drivers. If you don’t want to be flexible then you are no driver, are you?
It isn’t as if you have far to drive in, and getting home at midnight is a waste of time if everyone is in bed. May as well get a kip in the truck, fire off early and run in fresh.
This gig requires that you do what needs to be done. If you can’t hack it, get out of it. As things stand, you have damaged yourself badly here.

As for the post about stopping it I agree, I’m able to take constructive replies that don’t agree it was when a certain someone started with the usual crap I fell into the trap and then folk butting in when its no concern of them and they were telling lies to further make me look bad I defended myself I was actually gonna ask a mod to delete the whole mess.

Just had a chat with a manager who told me I’m stopping out tonight, I said I’m not willing to stop out on a Friday night unless he gives me a financial incentive. I get paid 7.15 ph and time and a half after 48 whoop de do, for running in on a sat we get the hours worked so I’ll be doing 1.5-2 hours tomorrow if I do the run. Having not seen my baby all week due to working so much I don’t think 15 to 20 quid is enough to persuade me to give my personal time up.
I’ve told him to suggest to the owner that paying us fairer would give us incentive to ‘bend over backwards’ but he said I should bend over backwards anyway as its my job to
So I wondered if anyone else gives up their weekends for such crasp money is it normal? Everywhere else I’ve worked you get 8 hours for working a sat even if you don’t do em.

I’m a bit confused as if your times up on the tacho you have no choice but to park up for the night whatever time of the week it is or however far away from home you are.
If it is near the yard its fair enough for another driver to come and bring the truck back. But if you had a few hours to drive did you expect the firm to send another driver down.
When you picked the load up you must of had an idea you wouldn’t make it back to base on friday. So if you had said can’t do it and run back from whever you tipped your last load you would have lost the remainder of the hours from that load so by doing that load you had the few hours from friday the night out money plus the few quid for saturday.
No driving job has hours set in stone as the unexpected happens on the road every day but if you want regular pretty much set hours general haulage is the wrong game think more skips tippers supermarket work etc

As for the rest of it its bloody ridiculous. I asked for what peoples views are and the thread gets derailed by bull [zb]. I work dam hard for all my employers and I’ve made mistakes as ALL drivers and employers in any job do and a lot of folk on here abuse me because I’ve got standards of how I expect to be treated and It’s different to theirs which is right so I’m wrong? It’s no wonder the public perceive lorry drivers as thick [zb] cause judging by a lot on here they are!

'Ol Bill Shakespeare said “much ado about nothing” and that’s what this is… innit. As has been pointed out, if yer hours are up, yer hours are up, and that’s that ! I don’t want to be having a go at Ollie Notts, but why ask the question in the first place ? You don’t have a choice do you. You have to park up when you’re out of hours. If you flatly refuse to do a night out because you want to see your Family, then you really are in the wrong industry. It’s all part of being a driver. It’s more than likely not the bosses fault, just how things work out on the road.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by “these who seem to ‘think’ they’re better then me,” but it seems to me that they arefar better than you in terms of their experience as LGV drivers. That’s NOT a dig at you, it’s simply a fact.
You write stuff on a public forum, but then you seem to get upset by some of the responses.
Please don’t forget that some of the folks on here have been in the industry for many, many years. It might simply be that your expectations are a little out of kilter with the ‘norm.’ That’s not saying that there’s anything wrong with your opinion, cos you’re as equally entitled to your opinion as the other posters are to theirs. If you look back at your posts on this topic, you’ll see that your expectations appear to differ quite markedly with the advice and answers offered by the majority of posters.
If I might offer you a friendly tip… please consider what you’re going to post before you hit the ‘submit’ button.
If you ask a question, you might get a diverse response, but then it’s up to you to evaluate the replies. If you make a ‘newbie’ statement about your expectations, then you’ll likely attract a different type of answer. Just a thought.

I’m fed up with it all, it all started with ss trying to be a clever [zb] and I shouldn’t of bit. I wanted to leave it and his troops started then with lies, one of whom is a mod and should of known better. I accepted the negative replies and as I’ve said already and people keep missing it’s given me something to think about. The rest was unnecessary and I’m fed up with the lot of It. Double standards, abuse from folk who don’t know what they’re on about trying to stick the knife in to look clever…it is not the same place it was I’ve had enough of it I know these keyboard warriors wouldn’t dare talk to my face like they have you can shove your forum and It’s know it all [zb] up your arse and if ss has a problem with me he’d like to settle he’s got my number and address he can come see me any time and give it the big one to my face instead of hiding behind his screen!
