Went to expo Leigh for a collection.
Go to the desk.
Expo driver in front of me . Office bod hands him a form says sign this.
Driver asks what is it.
Office bod goes on Tuesday your declaring you finished at 18 45. Yet our system is saying 18 43.
Driver says yes 18 45 your system must be faulty. An argument then starts for 5 mins in full view of everyone . In the end office bod says you don’t sign this I’ll need to call management and your get a disciplinary.
So he reluctantly signs the form.
Is this common thing that happens? An office bod will argue over 2 mins in public making the driver to be 2inchs tall?.
If I ever worked anyware like that it not last long.
Procedure where I am fill in time sheet everyday there not to bothered if am 5 or 10 mins out …i round it up to nearest 15 mins. Sometimes down if finish at 18.05 just put 18 00 keeps it simple

anyone that has a conversation like that lasting more then 30 seconds deserves all they get.
Much easier to work where management aren’t bothered if you put 18.30 when you finish at 18.15, and drivers aren’t bothered when starting at 08.00 if they do 5-10 minutes sorting paperwork or checking straps.
As long as neither side abuses it, give and take makes everything easier.

I totally agree with those sentiments.
But.
Isnt that way of working only possible in smaller outfits where there is some sort of human interaction between managers and drivers? Some sort of trust where we are left to get on with our job, and they (you) get your instructions followed, because we know you
re good at your job too? Wouldn`t bigger companies be better advised to split themselves into smaller teams, I wonder?
On one hand managers need to see their workers doing a good job, on tother workers need to have confidence in managers
competence. Swopping managers and drivers around leads to lack of confidence, hence extra checks by managers, and lack of effort if we feel we arent trusted. Vicious circle of distrust and lack of effort: why do more than is necessary if we have someone second guessing our every move.... Big companies ain
t for me.
Truck driver shortage - I wonder why

At our place you used to be able to round up half an hour with no issues, but some kept rounding up more and more, until they were claiming an extra 3 hours work every day. Now ANY overtime has to be authorised first, so, as predicted, the greedy ones have spoilt it for everyone else.
Two can play that kind of game, most Drivers arrive early for their shift, cup of coffee before hand, browse their paperwork have a natter with colleagues.
Simply ignore the TC don`t clock on or take your keys and paperwork until its your time to start.
Sounds like some power hungry clerk has let the menial job of checking timesheets against logged hours go to their head, plenty of them about.
Good managers know those type of people can have a detrimental effect on staff and do something about it, but that requires good mangers who are in touch with thier workforce.

+1. Seek and ye shall find…
That office ■■■■■■ obviously has not been punched enough in his life.
We have people who run to the clock machine then walk back to the smoke hut for a a coffee and cig. Others have their smoke and coffee before clocking in. The first sort earn an extra 100 hours ish per year more. (Stick your own hourly rate in for a yearly total.) That’s a lot of money being creamed off the company for nothing. No wonder companies are fighting back. Once again, drivers are our own worst enemies.
So if he would have clocked out at 18:47 and put on the sheet 18:45would they still be having an argument?

We can’t possibly go around advocating random violence against office staff…ah what the hell, doesnt apply to the pointy shoed ones!
I do wonder why they were counting it writing it on timesheets when they’d obviously got some other method of tracking people, whether it be clocking machine or tacho download time.
Sounds like he needs dragging over the desk.
Had this from an office knobgobbler at a place I used to work at in Bury. A bunch of us retaliated by filling out our time sheets with start and finish times like 06.13 and 19.17 all the times were correct to the half or quarter hour, but it took the same knobgobbler three times as long to process the time sheets. Took him 3 weeks before he got the message.
This is a xpo thing as they introduced it at our depot a while back , it’s pretty simple really just book the time you took your card out say 18.53, but it will still get rounded up and get payed till 19.00 , agreed it does seem a bit of overkill on their behalf but they say your time sheets and tacho have to match , perfectly
IME it’s the Larger firms that are getting picky about it, the bean counters have figured out that the few minutes gained in pay by rounding up is costing the company money.
For example, let’s say for every minute I round up I gain £0.20, so rounding up an extra 10 mins is gaining me £2, I’ve also know a blind eye being turned to adding 45 mins for the break being deducted by the agency if your working with a salaried staff driver.
so there’s some serious money being eaked out (albeit in tiny increments) over the financial year.
I first encountered this working agy from dhl, where the clerk would log me onto the system which was linked to the agy payroll, then at the end of the day they would log me out and I would be paid to the minute ie: start at 06:00, finish at 16:42, less 45 and I’d be paid 9hrs 57mins. Numourous arguments began especially if the clerk logged you out before completing the “debrief”

The issue might be they’ve been punched plenty of times, and now have got a little power for the first time in their lives and they’re using it to the full.
For the company the way this was dealt with is bad, anything like this should be done away from other staff, as soon as the driver refused that should have been an end to it there and it should have been dealt with later behind closed doors.

Obviously too many spineless drivers under his domain, allowing him to act like this On daily basis. Seeing fully grown truck drivers being scared of this pointy shoe brigade is pityful.
I were in a transport office yesterday waiting for the cretins to sign my notes.
One of the regular employed elf in green came in, downloaded his card then asked over the desk, “what time do you want me next week?”
Where the elf in green was told from a pointy shoe type yoof, “45hrs from now will be 12:30 Sunday afternoon, see you then”
This fully grown truck drivers face was one of pure great sorrow. So then what did he do, yes that’s right, he let out a massive sigh and replied, “Ohh ok then”
He then slowly saunterd over to his clapped out heap to enjoy his 45hr weekend sat in a bedsit.
I really do pity those in full time employment in this industry.
I’ve avoided these…
Kind of confrontations. Sure, have your fifteen minutes off me today.
I’ll be having an hour back off you tomorrow.

Nothing wrong with full time employment so a bit of a strange statement, on the other hand maybe some need to be a bit more wary of who they work for.
