Would you stand for this?

All a bit petty really over 2 mins. If was 10 15 mins than can understand it. But even than a quiet word on an office would be better.
Guess I’ve been lucky places I worked for hand time sheet it round it up or down to nearest 15 keeps it simple.
Only time been called in is on a very rare occasion when had a tacho error.
Even then was.sign here don’t do it again.

Way I see it treat your staff be it drivers or flt or packers with respect.
in return ther do there job and a lil but more at times when needed. Treat them bad there just work slow/to rule. It’s not rocket science really

This is a xpo thing as they introduced it at our depot a while back , it’s pretty simple really just book the time you took your card out say 18.53, but it will still get rounded up and get payed till 19.00 , agreed it does seem a bit of overkill on their behalf but they say your time sheets and tacho have to match , perfectly

As someone that doesn’t drive for a living, or hold Class 1, I call bulllshit.

It is impossible to start/finish when the card goes in/out, unless of course you are working for nothing.

There must be a couple of minutes either side to get/return keys and paperwork.

I’d be challenging anyone that told me differently.

This ^ .

this is where working for a small firm can be very beneficial. Our tm is also one of the directors (family business) but he’s worked his way up from leaving school so knows the score and is always very fair.

That’s what the manual entries are for to cover he time between the lorry & the gate.

I’ve avoided these…

Kind of confrontations. Sure, have your fifteen minutes off me today.

I’ll be having an hour back off you tomorrow.

Exactly! It’s one of the good things of driving you can always make up a bit extra if you feel like it.

So where do I hand my keys and paperwork in when I’m away for 4 /5 nights a week ? Plus I’m outbased aswell , Like u say u don’t drive for a living or hold a class1 , not exactly qualified to comment really are u :unamused:

I get paid what I wrote on my timesheet. The office agree that its to the nearest Quarter, Half of Full hour, no ■■■■■■■ about with minutes here and there.

Anyone who argued about it would be handed the keys once I’d emptied my kit out, and told to find another driver or rather dancing monkey that bows to their wishes.

Certainly wouldn’t take it from a jumped up booking in clerk…

I work for XPO and have never experienced this “minute pinching” although TBF my card goes in on a Monday morning and doesn’t come out until the end of the week. As an example I’ll take my card out at 16.40 hrs on a Friday, go get it downloaded and hand my keys and paperwork in but my timesheet will state a 1700 finish. It’s never been questioned, and I’ve always been paid right up to whatever time my timesheet states.

However though I finished work on Thursday this week as I have holidays to use up and as I’ll be away from the lorry for over a week I washed it inside and out, cleaned the windows inside and out and transferred all the contents to my car. I eventually went to hand my keys in and the child behind the desk muttered “you were hanging that out”. Obviously I decided that this needed nipping in the bud so aggressively responded with "you snot nosed little ■■■■■ are you paying my ■■■■■■ wages now? As he was playing to an audience with his initial sarky comment he swiftly shut up and hopefully that’ll be the last time he tries that thin end of the wedge with any drivers.

He will have undoubtedly used that line many times before and got braver and more confident each time…which is why they do ALL this kind of stuff, especially on the phone… because they are allowed to by the… ‘‘less forthright’’ , shall we say. :unamused:
Nice one for bringing the little sh back to reality anyway, and humiliating him,…he’ll think twice next time.

I remember when I did a short stint for a Wincanton site, you had a 3 month probation period. I was pulled up for clocking in one minute late twice & had to put it down as “something i’ll improve on” on the review form.

That, along with being pulled up for stuff like not wearing the ‘correct’ rigger gloves sealed the deal for me & my notice went in shortly afterwards.

All the while people allow themselves to be treated like dirt it will carry on. There is no shortage of work. Vote with your feet.

Why do drivers roll over for there belly ticking like this,
Thing is then they go out and moan about it to anyone who will listen,
Well try getting together and moaning to to right people,
I was once in an office for a well known container company and saw a little ■■■■ totally humiliate a driver and when I went all the other cronies burst out laughing,”one said to me you should work here drive it’s great fun”,to which I replied “no thanks Iv still got my dignity”…
Saw the driver outside having a ■■■ and asked him why he took such rubbish and his reply was “nowt I can do I just have to take it”
Stand up for yourselves if you are not happy

Read your history books, and beacause of all this stuff, hopefully one day history will repeat it’s self, where drivers and workers in general will get together in a group (or a ‘union’ with a small.‘u’) and say enough is enough.

This will again lead to an official Union (aka the ''dirty word" on here with some :unamused: ) which will halt workers from putting up with all this type of crap.
For the first 20 30 years these Unions will continue to gain ‘‘Workers Rights’’.
Hopefully the Unions will not lose their way again next time and ■■■■ up again, to the point where workers don’t bother with them anymore, (as well as swallow agenda led anti Union propaganda :bulb: ), lose all those those rights, and let themselves be treated like crap,.and become pathetic ‘‘Yes men’’ …just like now. :bulb:

UNBELIEVABLE !! for the sake of 2 minutes, i would have 1. slapped him. 2. deffo refused to sign and face a disciplinary. 3. handed my notice in or thrown the keys at him.

That’s why I always book a few minutes before I inserted the card and after I got it out by a manual entry.

Simple and how it should be done [emoji736].

When I was on agency they sent me to Salveson’s in Evesham fairly often. Not my favourite job as it was a bit far from home. but the work was pretty easy and plenty of hours.

There was one guy who worked the night shift in the office that really hated agency drivers for some reason and one night I got back from a second run and at around 1155 put midnight as my finish time. He went off on one and in the end, I changed it to 1155 and went home. I knew I would get paid to midnight anyway but it rankled, so every shift after that, I made sure to get an extra 15 minutes.

IME there is no point arguing with a knob; better to walk around.

Only 15 mins extra? Got to be worth at least 1hr :smiling_imp:

I would have said " Millions of jobs out there so Tatty Bye " .

Moderation is the key… I had no wish to sit in some smelly layby for an hour just to make the time up. Easy to lose 15 chatting in the yard and generally hanging about.
