Got asked if I wanted too sell a weeks worth of my holidays for a weeks pay 
,told the office bod I wanted more not less ,he seemed quite taken back at me saying no ,so would you sell a weeks worth of your holidays for a weeks pay 
,I can remember this years back but I thought it had died out to be honest .
2. Talking too Mrs and she said they buy them at her place ( Nhs) ,I’ve never heard of buying holidays but she says a few of her mates do if there short ,anyone done this ,what did it cost you

It’s always been a sore point to me as one of the places I worked we had layoffs ,whilst lads were layedoff some of the other lads who weren’t layed of were trying to sell there holidays ,I was the works rep and tried toget it stopped as I felt if they took the holidays they were entitled too instead of selling
them then some of the lads layedoff would of maybe got a week/ two of work .
Big arguments ensued and I jacked reps job in as I couldn’t represent the ones trying too sell there holidays ,just didn’t sit right with me at all,too be honest I struggled too talk too them .
To be honest I thought selling holidays was a thing of the past .
Not sure it would even be legal. There is a statutory minimum amount of holiday everyone is entitled to, 5.6 weeks. If you sell a week you might not get the legal minimum. back in the day you could work a weeks holiday and get double bubble but you can no longer do that.
I would rather buy more holidays

I think coffee it’s the extra 5 days you get after 5 years working for them ( holidays go up from 28- 33 days) ,theybwant you too sell 5 days ,leaving you with 28 days ,think that’s 20 days holidays + 8 b/ h ,I assume that would be legal .
I’ve been getting 33 days for a fair few years but first time I’ve ever been approached too sell them

I’ve never heard of this ( buying holidays ) ,but Mrs works for Nhs and says fellow workers buy them ,I’m not sure ,I guess if I want a month off to visit family in aus then yea I might ,but I’m ok with what I’ve got to be fair

Our place do Use it or Lose it . I have 15 days to take before the start of April so I’ve just chucked in my requests for Feb and March. I’ve done it In a way if I want and they have runs to cover I can use rest days not holidays 
We buy holidays. Its 3% of our salary for an extra 2 weeks off. We end up with 6 weeks a year plus bank holidays which we either have off or we can work for double time or get a lieu day in return.
The 3% works out at less than the wages you get for 2 weeks holiday so you can’t really lose.

Absolutely not sell a weeks holiday in fact I’ve asked if I could work some of my days off (when I don’t anything planned at home) in exchange for extra days annual leave but not had an answer yet.
i know a company that lets you trade your holidays in for shiny blingy things for your truck . and im not joking
At our place, if you don’t use your holiday, you get paid, the time back at the end of January, so effectively double bubble.
This year its 70 hours for me

I have been told its a use it or loose it policy at our place, but reading this i didnt realise it was a leagal requirment.
I used to get 5 days extra long service leave (making 33 days) Which we could either take them as hols or have them paid, could only do this for these 5 days though, the other 28 were use or loose…I usually took the extra pay.
Was made illegal a couple of years back
And yes i use to years back as an employee and single
Would get 4 weeks only use 2
Get the extra 2 in wages xmas
Only way can cash in now legally is if you get more than 20 days
Eg get 25 days can recieve payment for 5

Yeah that would be legal if it’s just the ones over and above your statuary 5.6 weeks. For people on a 5 day week 5.6 weeks does work out to 28 days minimum and can include the 8 Bank Holidays.
People saying at their place it’s use it or lose it the company have to make sure you take the holidays if losing it means you would get less than the 5.6 weeks.
Minimum legally required holidays are 20 days plus banks or 28 days pro rata.
You can’t sell those, you can’t ‘use or lose’ those, you HAVE to take them by law and the company has to give you them by law.
Anything over those though are company ‘perks’ and can be taken away or bought back or whatever.
