Would you ring DVSA/ Police or not?

Here was what I saw for myself, a flat bed van pulls in to a yard, they load about 7 large pieces of metal that are a few inches thick and are the dimension of the load space in the van.
They weigh about 900 kgs each.
The tyres are now looking flat with all the weight.
The rear doors on the van are down as the sheets of metal overhang by about three feet.
He has no chains or straps, the load leaves at an angle with nothing to stop it coming off, potentially killing somebody.
Call the busies or let him get on with it ?

call the cops you will feel bad if he kills somebody and you did nothing

The loader is asking for trouble legally as well as the driver

I would have had a quiet word with the driver first and then called cops if necessary

Police - let them deal with it

Hang on, wasn’t it considered bad sport to rat on a fellow driver??

I’m getting confused now…

What’s a ‘flat bed van’? Or do you mean a pick up truck.

Put a gun to his head ask him if he feels lucky…

How the hell can you have a flat bed van tobes??, it’s either a flat bed OR a van, it’s like saying a flat bed tautliner, you just aint trying :unamused:

And the answer is NO, because a. It has ■■■■ all to do with me. b. I aint a cop.or traffic marshall. and c. I have enough probs watching my own job.

I’m confused! Do you mean a 3.5 ton flatbed truck or a full bodied van?
Flatbeds don’t have rear doors, but vans aren’t really flatbeds!!
If it’s in a van then don’t worry about it, if it’s unsecured steel on a flatbed then he’ll be lucky to get out of the yard without losing it

Hmmmmm I see where your coming from with this tobester, so not really a driving non event that some get their rocks off twittering about, more a overloading + insecure load situation.

Now in reality I would probably just crack on but mull it over as a possible 101 call, to be honest I doubt I would do anything about it.

But what if it came on the radio that this van had crashed and killed someone, now would I feel bad about my lack of professionalism when witnessing an obvious disaster in the making. Well yes of course but its not in my remit to act as a road protecting health and safety warrior.

Ahh but by ignoring it did I in a way contribute to the accident, well using the mantra bad things happen when good men do nothing, yes I did. But as long as no one I cared about was hurt I would get over it quite quickly.

Did you weigh the sheets how do you know they are 900k each. That type will only take 1400kg. I’m assuming Its was a panel van the a sprinter will only take 900-1000. They always look overloaded when at full weight too

and was it a 3.5t or 6.5t

Erm no it kinda proves that there are flat bed pick ups, a van is a van, your photo is that of a pick up…

If your really concerned the first thing would be to speak to the driver or the person loading it or someone in charge in the yard to stop it going out on the road in the first place. Even if you call the police depends how busy they are, likely to keep an eye out for it, so could crash before police get anywhere near it.

The driver and the loader both may not have a clue what they are doing or how unsafe it is. Maybe speaking to them or the person in charge will stop that load going out and stop it happening in future.

If that’s a van then my ■■■■■■■ is an earole
