Would you just leave?

We have a lad at our place who appears to have just quit I mean went home Friday and hasn’t come back or had any contact with anyone at the firm…is this normal practice in this industry being relatively new to it I’m not sure…I have always tried to leave on an amicable note so if needed I have a job to come back too …what do you all think?

Is it that or has something happened to him

In my younger days I walked out without giving notice. There are many times since that I have considered it over the years but have not resigned.

As the previous post said, has he left or has something happened to him? Can he be contacted to make sure he is ok? There could be a good reason why he is absent.

We should never assume anything, always try and confirm the facts.

I wondered that but having found info that would suggest he may be looking for another job I’m not sure not assuming anything chap more concerned for his well being than anything else as is the rest of the firm

If someone leaves you in the dark then you’re left with little option but to make assumptions. Time to advertise…

I was referring to the welfare of the individual. Obviously the employer has to assume that he is not returning and make arrangements for a replacement, whether on a temporary or permanent basis.

In Hospital, in Prison, last seen riding a Segway and took a funny turn  ,

I would check this out before giving his job away, was there anything missing from the vehicle, like cash and the load

Maybe its…" Goodbye cruel world". :frowning:

You’re so naughty, Malc.

I worked for a guy once, who fell on his sword,

At work all day he was fine,in the afternoon
he went out and bought a petrol gennie,
and gassed himself inside his diesel engined car.

Weekends are when people go out for a drink etc. Not unknown for mishaps on way home. There are so many possibilities.

Has someone upset him at work? After a bust - up I just dissappeared from a job once years ago leaving them in the lurch

Well thats a coincidence we had a fella do exactly this on Friday :exclamation:    :unamused:
And guess what ? He didn’t turn up for work on Monday, apparently he was a really ‘nice fella’ :unamused:

regarding the question rather than the speculation about this particular case:
the rational thinker would prefer to leave on good terms and avoid burning bridges.
we all have our limits though and if pushed hard enough for long enough, we sometimes make irrational decisions and act upon them. something will give eventually

yes i would but there would be a long build up to it and i would have to be sure that i would never need that job again. even then there would need to be something to trigger that action on that day that makes me think “thats it, i have had enough”

we are only human

I nearly left my old bosses minibus at Gatwick Airport a few monthes ago after the big argument we had on the phone

we are only human

No we’re not, we’re truck drivers, something less than human beings!

Never a truer word spoken. ! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I can imagine the satisfaction of walking away from a job and landing someone else in the ■■■■■■ especially parking a vehicle up on a site an posting the keys back and then making your own way home.

I personally think that a previous company I worked for may have suspected that’d I’d actually do this one day and paid me off before I actually did it, however tempting it was and boy did I dream of it, it’s not something that I could ever do (unless I get somewhat wealthier)

Except if that was the place you would never come back, in any circumstances…

I was planning to leave McLellan’s just before I had my accident. And you could be sure that it wasn’t planned to be a “quiet exit”.

I won my case in ET, but my need to tell a few guys what I think of them is still not fullfilled…

I’ve been recently in Coates, most of them still work in the office, but as a visiting driver I have to behave proffesionally… What a shame :frowning:

A few months back we had a driver outbased at Carlisle just walk off the job in the middle of the day, The truck was loaded with urgent deliveries but we didn’t find out till that night and that the truck was parked up still loaded. We tried phoning him next day but got no answer and I suggested that the firm should send the police to his house to make sure he was ok, he was and gave the police a lot of aggro and said no way would he talk to his employers.
He had been with us a couple of years and never had any problems, he seemed an ok guy, he left all his personal belongings in the truck too and has not made contact with us in the 3 months he has been gone, we are just left guessing why?
