Oh, actually I just recalled a sitation when I just went home. It was on agency jobs and it was for a Britannia movers in Glasgow. The mates were keeping to smoke weed despite me telling them to do not do so. And they threatened me with a knife when I said that I am going to speak with agency about it. So when we came back to the yard for reload, I just took my tacho out and went home.
Back in my warehousing days I walked off a new job after just a few a hours when it dawned on me I’d just left a rubbish warehouse job for one that was even worse
Luckily i hadn’t burned bridges at my old job (had intended to let rip but decided to bite my lip and leave with some dignity) so I called my old boss and asked if I could have my old job back. He agreed and I came back the next day.
Never heard anything from the other job which I thought was a bit strange
So come on then Dog have you heard anything??
Happens to many times, people leave without leaving any message, most times not contactable, don’t answers phones, letters etc.
If you had enough, peed off or whatever, when you leave have the balls to contact your boss, planner or anybody else in the company and tell them that your gone and won’t come back anymore, fine no probs, and it leave the door slightly open if you want or need to come back.
Transport world is very small.
Years ago a driver left us with a lot of shouting and threatning, he tried to sue e company and made a lot of bad noise… 3 month later we bought the company where he had moved to
Is. Future didn’t look to promising, and with the responsibility for a few kids etc. He had to do a lot of grovelling and begging to be even considered to be able to stay
if its anything to do with disaplinary i just walk, had it a fair few times and even though ive been told it not going to end up with sacking, just a ear bashing to get me to toe the line i just walk, last thing you want is reason for leaving sacking on next application, they may say ear bashing but do you trust them.
now id not get myself in that situation,as you get older you realise theres ways and means of getting back at them rather than going off at them, and costing yourself a job

A few months back we had a driver outbased at Carlisle just walk off the job in the middle of the day, The truck was loaded with urgent deliveries but we didn’t find out till that night and that the truck was parked up still loaded. We tried phoning him next day but got no answer and I suggested that the firm should send the police to his house to make sure he was ok, he was and gave the police a lot of aggro and said no way would he talk to his employers.
He had been with us a couple of years and never had any problems, he seemed an ok guy, he left all his personal belongings in the truck too and has not made contact with us in the 3 months he has been gone, we are just left guessing why?
None of us know what will happen in our lives and maybe we will end up in this situation. This is one of the problems with todays mad rush, we don’t have time to sort things out until it is too late. Everyone else has got problems and they don’t want to listen to yours.

The other problem is those who can’t or wont ask for help when they need it. We should never be too proud to ask for help.
It used to be a regular thing, dozens of one trippers or occasionally career dumpers, took on a job, loaded and collected the running money in Dover. They normally made it to Belgrade and got a lift back with other drivers.
A driver who brought them back should be treated like a tea leafs fence, if they didn’t help them out, they wouldn’t be able to nick £600 every trip
