Would you go to work today?

makes me laugh, you all go on about being poorly paid, being treated like ■■■■, huge reponsibilities yet will put yourselves at risk in getting into work in what Op says impassable conditions, going long way round, setting off for work 2 or 3 hours earlier all coming out of your own pocket,

ok years ago the employer may have respected you for doing this and things like this were what xmas bonuses were for ect but todays employer dont give a ■■■■ your just another driver… are the deliveries you doing really that urgent?

RobRob:
We had about 3"s of snow over night.

I am due to drive from Boston to Liverpool and back today in a Bulk Tipper.

We live down a country lane that is virtually impassible, although I have to admit, I haven’t actually tried yet.

Would you go to work in jese conditions?

Cheers.

it`s got nothing to do with how much of a man you are…if you genuinely feel that you would be a danger to other road users in these conditions, then you should stay off the road.
if,however you are just using it as an exuse for a long week end, then you should man up and go to work

If the tipper was loaded overnight, I’d advise you to take a shovel…
Sent from my Iphone whilst still being loaded but having finished my coffee.

Yes, and if it wasn’t for the muppets who can’t adjust their driving to the conditions by taking particular care, it would be easier thanks to those who don’t venture out.

Bunch of ■■■■■■■ clowns on here!

I went to work btw and always had every intention of doing so!

As for growing a pair and manning up, I’d bet my sizeable weekly salary that mine are bigger and that I’m more of a man than 90% of you muppets on here! :unamused:

you ARE ranolph fiennes

Them thar’s fightin’ words! Different strokes… was almost a TV program.

Lets not blow this out of proportion, we are talking about 3’’ of snow, not 6’ of it! As an employer, I have the same difficulties getting into work as everyone else, but also have the added pressure of trying to cover jobs should people have the attitude of I can’t be bothered.

Fortunately I run a small family concern and without fail everyone turned in, not one of them complaining. One driver had even walked 3 miles as he said he didn’t fancy taking his car up the hill. If he would have let me know I would have collected him from the closest point to his house. I fully appreciated the guys efforts to get in, its all well and good slagging off bosses/bonuses etc etc but try running a company today and you will find its bloody hard work and there isn’t the money in it to throw cash around freely

Walking 3 miles to work! That counts as dedication beyond the call of duty in this day and age.

Completely agree, though he did comment after I thanked him that it might also have been to do with the fact his tyres were below the legal limit and he didn’t fancy risking bringing his car  Needless to say, after his shift, he rang me, I collected him and dropped him off at home. I thought it would be a bit harsh to make the bugger walk

Ummmm where’s that P45? Knowingly driving a car with ‘illegal’ tyres, stupid ■■■■■ Fire him before he takes someone out you know or love, because of his selfish attitude.

Ah that’s put a Diff’rent Perspective on it, Willis. Surely if he never drives on slicks in wet conditions then it’s actually safer?

attitude of I can’t be bothered.

in my case this was,nt the option as i stated i called TM to be picked up in one of the firms 4x4,s, the company chose not to do this…

no one as asked the op what vehicle he as, how long the lane, hills ect, just the usual insults and willy waving…

if your employee is knowingly driving around in an unsafe vehicle I would ask myself what else is he up to, whats my truck like ect??i appreciate running a buisness is tight but you chose to do that, and the safety of your employees should come first and not your customer…

last interview I had I was,nt asked where I live? perhaps I wouldnt have got the job cos I live down a country lane… so we all have to live in towns on major roads that get gritted, and have $x4s so we can get to work in winter…

Nice attitude! Unlike some on here I am not perfect. I have been known to do 32mph in a 30 zone or similar misdemeanours as I am sure many people have. Would you expect to lose your job for this as I am sure many people would be straight on this website slagging off the company, saying how unfairly you have been treated :open_mouth:

Yes, his tyres were dubious, but on realising this, he acted on it. Did not drive his car and as soon as the conditions allowed made his car roadworthy. I did not and would not present him with his P45 for this. I would have a word and ‘suggest’ he rectifys his wrongs. I am sure many of you are aware that finding good, honest, hardworking staff is getting more and more difficult. He is one of these guys and to fire him as suggested would not only be short sighted on my behalf but horrendously harsh on him.

Firstly, I didn’t really expect or want him to be given the boot, but don’t compare driving for the whole journey with dangerous tyres to going 2 miles over a 30mph speed limit. Does he neglect his Work vehicle in the same way? That’s what I’d be asking myself.
Tyres don’t just become illegal, they wear down over time. You don’t just wake up and it’s just happened.
Anyway, nothing to do with any cybermonkey on here what you do or don’t do.

BTW, I was offered a Night Winter contract with Calor through my Agency, to make sure I was going to get to and from work, I sold my C5 and bought a Jeep Cherokee, a right mean beasty. Anyway, due to the warm winter the night job fell through and I had to sell my Jeep for a Volvo.

This has to be a wind up, I would not normally think of Boston Lincs. as “southern jesse land”, snow has been seen there before now. What did you do last year when it snowed from November til the end of January? If its not a wind up I would agree with some of the earlier posts GROW A PAIR. Either that or look for a job as a child minder where the mothers will drive their little brats to you to keep you from the cold. Then again could you stand the stress of looking after the little angels ?
Pass the sick bag please. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: Kevmac47.

As the employer though, I am responsible for the roadworthiness of his works vehicle so am safe in the knowledge that when it leaves the yard it is safe.

In part I agree with what you are saying, he shouldn’t have allowed his tyres to get that bad. My point was that just because he had made a mistake, he shouldn’t be harshly punished, and as an employer I was very grateful for his efforts of getting into work when others are quite obviously not so keen to put the effort in
