I also came from a bus the coach driving background and now drive HGV’s I absolutely love it in comparison. If the job you’ve done for your first week isn’t for you try a different aspect. There are lots of different hgv jobs to choose from
+1 I’d never go back to buses/coaches
Never go back to buses, I’ve done/am doing a job that a lot of hgv drivers won’t do, so I’d comfortably say it’s the dreggs of hgv driving… and it beats the buses hands down every time

the first 25 years are always the worst

Like quite a few others I too have PSV and HGV licenses. I’ll tell you this, driving a bus was the only driving job where I frequently wanted to ‘punch the load’.
17 years driving buses in Liverpool for me and yes I can’t believe I had never been sacked or had my head kicked in arguing
I was feeling fed up this week at work, this thread just reminded me that I do actually like my current job
Depends what the OP has been on. Hard to comment on the little or no information he has provided. I am guessing he got a really bad multi drop probably through an agency and he was covering for someone on holiday which is about as bad as it gets. The loaders load the rigid just the same as the guy who usually does the route only he knows the route like the back of his hand and probably changes it around so the drops are easier and more suitable for the times etc. Then the agency lad comes in and gets the same amount to deliver which is normally a 12 hour shift but he ends up doing 15 hours and stressed.
I did bus service and coaches over Europe living in France for 8 years and that game is over. There is a lot I knock about driving HGV but I have to say I would not go back to bus and coaches. My advice to the OP is to leave driving altogether as it ain’t getting any better
LIBERTY_GUY:
Go on tippers. Just like the buses, you don’t have to bother with loading or unloading the vehicle.
What about having to press the pto button and pushing the lever?
Anyway I often have to load myself as we do a lot of dig and load jobs, customer usually supplies the Tonka toy and I load myself. It can be so physically demanding, I have to get out of the digger, climb in the cab and lift the body to check the weight. Sometimes I have an off day and I have to get back in the digger and top myself up. Bidvest have it ■■■■ easy.

Just gave up bus driving job to start hgv work. I have lasted one week. This is the worst job ever. Can’t believe I wanted to do this. I thought bus driving was bad but this is much worse. It’s a complete nightmare. Gonna have to bite the bullet and get back on the buses. Rant over.

I think he did coz I’m in the dark.
Ah well, moving on…
Somebody else who thought the motor loaded and unloaded its self like passengers walking on and off a bus,and that drivers unlike bus drivers don`t have priority parking or subsidised /free meals on the motorway services.
Welcome to the world of LGV driving, get the first 20 years or so under your belt and you will be OK

All that proves is he took his test with stobarts.
True but I could hazard a guess that the academy although quite good hasnt quite prepared him for the real world.
Maybe he was hoping for a job with the boys In green and didnt fit the bill. Reading between the lines I can see he has attitude issues which may work on busses but may not help him with the solitary life of a true class 1 proper trucker. Probably kept stopping every half a mile for a tea break and got the push.
No offense intended to bus drivers with attitude issues…
Worst job I ever had was BTS out of Carrington Manchester, zero hours contract same rate straight through, no holiday pay they paid you that at Christmas as a bonus lol or bought your holidays back of you. All in all a sh*t job, but some like it…?
Wilk:
I bet it must be Bidvest (class 2), isn’t it?
I’ll second that statement !
Now I’ve not worked for Bidvest - but here is my own imagination as to “what’s bad about it”…
(1) Lots of organization with regards to hand-helds, money booking, bookkeeping, and other managerial type duties that grunts like me can’t be arsed with.
(2) Lots of running up and down stairs with crates of food under the arm - only to get doors slammed in your face, people barging into you…
(3) You leave crate one of food at the top of the stairs to return to the wagon for a second… By the time you’ve got back up there, an item has been nicked out of the crate, and you’ve got a “short” on your hands
(4) You’ll be under pressure to park illegally at all times - OR walk miles and miles from the nearest valid parking place…
(5) The job don’t pay enough for all this crap.
(6) 1-5 and repeat.
Am I right? - from what I see from the outside looking in?
Bus driving can’t be appealing now for gods sake. There used to be some respect for them but now with society the way it is, you must get some stick? At least the loads on hgv don’t talk!
Boxes don’t moan at you. At least on hgv you don’t have 53+ back seat drivers criticising your driving when half of them don’t even hold a car license. 9 years on service bus and hated it after a while. Tried my hand at coaches slightly better until you got the wembley jobs or the like.
I’m on agency (hides) I get the ■■■■■■■■ o’clock starts and a lot of ■■■■ and being ■■■■■■ about. I’m at a permanent workplace everyday though delivering for maccies. Lugging cages about sweating my arse off.
But…
I’ve had a serious crash course in reversing (not literally)…
I’ve lost 3+ stone in just over 3 months.
Any stress I’m under on the deliveries goes the minute I get back in the cab.
And I can earn more money doing 40 hours than I did doing 60.
Every job I’ve done I’ve not liked for the first week or more. Now I’ve found my feet I wouldn’t change it.
Maybe swap and change when I’ve a bit of experience under my belt but for now I’m happy as a pig in ■■■■…
I may be wrong but it sounds like the O/P has has gone and done No1 on Mike 68’s all time list of things to be avoided in transport, never involve yourself in for profit transport.

Amen to that. I drive for a kitchen manufacturer who has a fleet larger than most haulage companies and it is infinitely better than any for profit haulage firm I’ve driven for in the last 20 odd years.
