dump truck=tipper lorry
and on and on
Any chance of you teaching Immigrant some “new” English then Dolph?

Pete.
Not a chance Pete, if people don’t want to integrate by learning the host country language nothing can motivate them. One of my distant relatives couldn’t get US citizenship because after 8 years in US he barely spoke any English, does not been able to pass citizenship exam He finally got it after attending ESL classes, but it was hard for him since he studied Russian in school.
Its just how it panned out mate. When I arrived in 09 it was during a 18 month period when all the new starters were either English or Irish so we were thrown together from day one, learning together, working together etc and we all lived at the yard in accommodation provided by the company so a great sense of camaraderie formed and long lasting friendships etc. I do have Canadian driver colleagues I get on with very well but by and large I have little in common with the rural ‘redneck’ types who form a great percentage of the population here whos main interests are hunting, ice hockey and nascar, none of which interest me at all. I am however married to a local girl and have a baby here now so I suppose I’m integrating in that sense.
