Worst drivers out there

When I first started driving someone advised me - “treat everyone out there like an idiot and don’t assume what they’ll do”. That little gem has stood me in good stead all my driving life.

I am a professionally trained driver, with HGV and PSV licenses, I also own a motorbike as well as a car, so have an insight into the differences between vehicles on the road, their capabilities and the potential hazards. It doesn’t make me a driving superhero, but I do keep my eyes open and my brain in gear when on the road. I have seen too many people cut out of cars and trucks over the years and too many roadside wreaths to take my eye off the ball and become indifferent what what can rapidly become a very dangerous environment.

The only driver I become annoyed at sometimes are so called ‘Professional drivers’. The ones that do it for a living and are supposed to be some of the most highly skilled drivers out there and setting an example of how it should be done. Sitting inches behind another vehicle that is going bang on 50mph through motorway roadworks, trying to intimidate them into breaking the speed limit by using the size of their vehicles, is one of the worst examples of why some folks really should have their licenses taken off them.

Just thought of another group of helmets, (of which the numbers are increasing ) those that are too thick to realise you do not drive a truck in the same way as you drive a car. These guys are just a danger to everybody.

Majority of drivers in the lower BD postcodes

…and quite a few more in the higher postcodes!

Oi, I live in BD1 [emoji3]

Haha, I said majority, not all!

I hate going to that place!

Lorry drivers who sit right up the arse of car drivers through roadworks, absolute [zb] seen one the other day coming up the M6 through the 50mph section sat literally a foot away from a car that had 2 kids in the back seat, that car breaks heavily and he kills 2 innocent kids…these types should have their licence taken off them.
Regardless of what speed the car is doing there is no excuse.

Couldn’t agree more.

I expect nothing but daftness from car or van drivers, despite many of those being far better at general driving some so called lorry drivers display.

At the top of the this forum is the title Professional Drivers Forum, that’s self explanatory, we are supposed to be professionals, the average car or van driver isn’t, so we should take into account that driving isn’t their profession at all times.
You wouldn’t expect a lorry driver to be skilled at anyone else’s job, so why do lorry drivers expect those who work in other fields to be skilled drivers.

When lorry drivers get back to acting like pro drivers, they might earn the right to criticise others, breath not held.

As for lorry drivers tailgating/bullying on the road its getting worse, but it will be coming to an end because the lorries are sooner than we think going to be equipped with adaptive cruise that is going to be more intrusive than ever, electronics will stop this tailgating and i suspect we’ll increasingly be relegated to single lane use.
I’m surprised that narrowed three lane motorway roadworks sections still allow lorries to use two lanes, now and again you come upon motorway works where lanes two and three are weight/width limited and i suspect its only time till this becomes the norm.

The morons who tailgate and bully are bringing this ever closer to fruition by their incompetence and idiocy, they’ll all be here whining here about it and never once imagine that they in their droves might be the root cause, they show their Darwin Award mental state by being seen regularly tailgating other lorries too :unamused: , you have to be mentally deranged to risk your own life willingly like that.

Agreed.

Last year on the way to Llandudno on the A55, having entered the 50 mph zone and slowed to that speed, one such ■■■ sat his C+E a foot from my rear bumper throughout that section.

And in the roadworks on the A483/A55 interchange (lane 1 closure), not far from where a cyclist was killed last week, a lovely lady got really rather animated as I filtered into ‘her lane’ (so animated she nearly dropped her ■■■). It must have been ‘her lane’, as the previous 200 yds she had altered her speed continually to prevent me from filtering over.

Cooperative use of the road? Not using vehicle size to bully/intimidate other road users? Never sound your horn aggressively?

I said on a previous thread, I’ve seen the aftermath of a family folded up in their car having been overrun by a HGV. It’s a shame there are a few numpties in the profession who tarnish the image of the rest of us.

According too some of the complaints that have landed on my bosses desk ,I’m up there with the worst

Old time Lorry drivers that drone on about roping and sheeting and how they never had sat navs. Yawnnnnn

Must have been a hard thing to see…

i could go on and on about the hgv drivers but i leave the car drivers and van drivers alone as there not professional so i dont expect anything else from them.

Why leave them alone? They have passed a practical test, and possibly a theory and hazard perception (HA!) too, demonstrating their ability to move a vehicle safely and demonstrate knowledge of the laws of the road. Surely it’s not to much to ask for them to demonstrate these skills.

if your any good as a hgv driver, car drivers and the like will never be a problem for you. you will be to sharp and to quick to spot the dangers before they happen, if your no good and a road rage loony like most of the posters sound on here then of course there going to be a problem for you

your either cut out to be a driver or not you need to develop a temperament that can read the roads and whats going on at all times, i know its hard for the new guys to understand this way of driving

As a cyclist, I played a game called “What’s the most idiotic thing that car will do”, after all, being in the right is no good if you’re being mopped up! It’s a game I brought with me into LGV driving. The sad thing is, no matter how aware I am or how well I read the road, some moron will do something so idiotic that it catches me out!

Dipper_Dave:
Ex HGV drivers who left the industry but still give it the bigun on tinternet forums…

As ive done most bad things in my time only thing that annoys me is folk going slower than I want to go or going faster than I want to, oh and tipper drivers, oh and male fiat 500 drivers -FFS its a womans car and im expecting some shapely thigh to letch at.

Oi, we hired a fiat 500L last time we were over. If I’d thought of it, I’d have worn me short shorts for you.

And your eternal ■■■■■■■■■ keeps pouring out.

At least get the words right and into some sense.

Oh wait - it’s you so no point, We are not worthy [emoji6]

I wouldn’t say worse but inconsiderate, or not thinking. I was on my way to Preston on Saturday, something had happened on the East lanc’s as the traffic in the first lane was terrible.
There was a gap in the line of traffic. A car in the second lane indicated to go in the first lane, but a transporter already in the first lane sped up and blocked him/her.
I was a few vehicles back, but by doing so the transporter was causing congestion in the second lane.
The car tried to get in a little further up and I drew level with the transporter. I explained to him what he had done, but was met with a load of expletives.
I gave him a big grin and continued on up the M6.

With out doubt 8 legged tippers .
Where do they get these peoples

I agree with you 100% on that one, it’s really boring. It’s far more interesting to listen to someone brag about " handball ?, not me, I’m paid to drive not work ". " use my initiative ?, not me, I don’t get paid enough to think. ". I also find it very interesting when people get all excited telling everyone how they can link their " greenteeth " to their " prat-nav " to their " faceache and tweeter " accounts. Also fascinating are those who say " I was expected to take a truck out today but the microwave wasn’t working " , no chance, I told the idiot in the office the trucks going nowhere till you get it fixed. :unamused:
Just an " old timer " trying to bring a bit of balance !!
Regards. John.

New drivers who come on here when they first pass their test, ask advice from the… :quote:"Old time lorry drivers’’ get 5 minutes experience under their belts, (which makes them think they have done it all, even though they have not even got the stabilisers off) …and then come on here slagging off the same guys. :bulb: Yawnnnnn
Hear any bells ringing? :bulb:
