Auto gearbox is crap and you sit too low,all cf drivers look like midgets aswell, allways got adblue faults ,shocking lorry
I had the pleasure of driving one of our CFs on Monday as my Premium was away for its 6 weekly. I honestly cannot think of any good things to say about the DAF. Its the most uncomfortable truck I’ve ever driven. I tried all day to get the seat and steering wheel adjusted to something that got close to comfortable and it just wouldn’t happen. Driven loads of CFs in the past and had the same problem with them all.
Have you noticed with all cf drivers all you can see is their head ,
More than likely the drivers you have seen have short legs and can`t reach the pedals without blocks on them if the seat is raised

I’m 5ft 7in and I have to have all the air out of the seat when I drive a CF. My foot struggles to reach and slips off the accelerator pedal every time I go over a bump in the road. I could understand if I was a short arse but I don’t think I am.
I had Cargo on hire found it ok
did Bedworth to St Austell and return twice in a day
long day granted
I should have kept the Tacho
come to think of it may have shared legs 2 and 3
I was helping my tenant move house
I hated driving the Bedford TK’s. Being 6’ 0" I found the driving position terrible. It had no power steering, rubbish brakes, gutless, horrible to drive and was cold and draughty.
Next would be the Volvo FL10 on tramping work… I think I hated it more than TK (which I didn’t have sleep in !!!) . What a pile of dung…the CF I drove after was luxury …lol !!!
An 08 Axor. Now I can see why everyone hates on them. The cab is nice and tall but that is all moot because of the massive mound you have between the seats. The steering is vague, the brakes are bottle caps. Heater did not work so it was colder in the cab than out. Even lightly loaded it was gutless. The yellow side light closest to the front would shine in the mirrors that meant you could see nothing at night. The cab stunk of TCP for some odd reason.
The other has to be MAN’s rigids. I’ve driven them on a few occasions and I can safely say that I actually enjoy it in a masochistic way. Yes they are gutless, yes the cab is made of plastic that rattles and shakes all the time. Yes the steering wheel is as big as a dustbin lid and its got a bigger turning circle than a container ship. The rear overhang is about the biggest I’ve seen and its notorious for collecting things. Every driver I’ve spoken to hates them but me, I kinda like em.

I used to do nights out in a fl and thought it was ok at the time, how things have changed ,you could fit a fl inside most modern cabs
How’d you get in the bunk Seth ,was it by getting out and back in via the passenger door ? I remember the first time I moved one ,a fl7 for steam cleaning I couldn’t believe the dash was like being in a cockpit !!

Yea dan, only thing you could do in drivers seat was drive it,as soon as you parked up you went round to the passenger side to eat your dinner, watch tele on the dash etc,the tele used to rolled up in my sleeping bag and put on the bed behind my head thru the day,the cab was that small you had to get out of it to change your mind,i once saw a double man team from manchester in cambills buffet spain, they had a back load of oranges in a fl7 artic
I’m voting daf, really poor turn circle, under powered and a oversize gear stick. I drive a iveco euro trakker and I love it. OK the steering wheel is a bit big but the turn circle is amazing. Find it has loads of power and a nice short slap stick.
I used to struggle to get comfortable in my Alpha, but the CFs I’ve driven seemed better. Still not perfect (took me ages to get the seat right this morning after a week off).
The worst truck I’ve had full time was a MAN TGS 400 8wheeler. Crap asthmatic auto box, thirsty, slow, interior suffered from leprosy, and constant engine warnings.
