Working for NFT

Can anyone please give me the heads up on working for NFT,as in pros and cons etc.

They dont have a massive turnaround as far as I can see so cannot be that bad but have no idea on shifts ,pay etc.

Any info would be much appreciated, thanks.

24/7 operation
Long shifts
Good kit
Easy work

I was only agency,so don’t know full timers wages.

I was on the agency for them at Elstree and London Colney depots.Easy work and not mithered by any office bods. That was a few years back,so don’t know what they’re like now.
Would still be at Elstree but they moved the job to Waltham Point, mores the pity.

Depends which depot.
Alfreton was crap, high turn over of drivers and unrealistic runs constantly but my brother has been there nearly 2 years if you can ignore the bull or don’t mind being given a 13 hour run after waiting in the canteen for 3 hours then crack on.
The office staff in transport were mainly a bunch of ignorant pricks with zero telephone manner or accountability, everything is the drivers fault
Driver trainer was great, told us the if you don’t use POA then dvsa will fine us as it’s a legal requirement :unamused: amongst other little gems.

My mate’s been at Crick for a good while, that mere fact he’s still there tells me the job is pretty decent.

On more than one occasion,my first job would be to “rescue” an out of time driver lol

Always amazes me how many drivers are happy to say “yes sir” to only putting their card in and start duty when they get the truck keys.

Duty & pay starts at the time your asked to arrive at work. If there is no wagon or they have mixed up the start times, it’s their problem.

I remember one lad when I worked at Wiseman’s, arrived at work at 3am, got told they got his start time wrong and to sit in the canteen till 6 unpaid… he did it :unamused:

I wasn’t suggesting drivers did that, mores the point that they take the ■■■■…its not nicknamed No Family Time for nothing.
That said some folk see the chance to max hours every week as a show of testosterone my brother being one of them
He got paid 42k last tax year but for that he worked 5-6 days at mac hours every single week. And he’s still skint as he’s a gambling addict :grimacing: :unamused:

Nft crick sainsbury is not all that!!

Part 1,part 2,part 3…Not a problem I said …didn’t realise 3 Different units!!!
A lot of drivers moan if they do 8hr shifts!!
Runs are to short…I go to work to work in at least 12 hours!Nft drivers don’t get big runs only agency!!

No family time is the name my wife gave them when I worked there about 10 years ago :open_mouth:
Has others have said if it’s Alfreton depot shifts can be really long Alfreton to Grantham to Faversham back to Alfreton. Working the weekend either 1 or both days is the norm too.
Only the ex Dronfield drivers got steady runs.

Basic pay 10.95.Flat rate
location bonus-45p/h.Most branches paid permamently. But i think some branches not.
Saturday/Sunday 1.44 p/h extra.
Night shift after 2000 -2.53 p/h.
As well good holiday money paid .Not just basic pay but if work long hours and overtime that average pay for last …
To many people work with 4on 4 off but some people work normal shift .As well if work 4 on 4 off that they make pay levelinng and pay per 42 hours plus any extra worked hours every Thursday anyway.

Wibble dib let wobble Wooosh.

Forgot to mention they’ve got incab cameras now at alfreton.

Inward facing camera, does that mean Dipper Dave can’t drive in Y fronts and not expose himself anymore, unless the boss puts it on You Tube .

I did a few shifts for them last year out of the Middleton depot. Long, long hours(once you have spent a couple in the canteen or waiting to be loaded).

ASDA RDC’s mainly… W@nk.

As a driver for Alfreton depot i don’t reconise some of these comments…
High turnover of drivers ? ■■■■■■■■
Occasionally you may have to wait for a run (natural in a business that changes hourly) but you wouldn’t be expected to do a 13 hr run after 3 hrs wait as that is illegal , You are expected to manage your hours so if you can’t do a run you tell them and they will accommodate that
Company advises you to use POA, i think whoever told you that dvsa will fine you is talking some "waiting room " bull
Office staff ignorant? well some are some aren’t same as most companies iv’e worked for .
Long hours ? it can be , you tell them at transport 13 or 15 when you arrive , I know drivers that never do 15’s and also we all know them that max hours every week.
Holidays are paid on your average p46 and an excellent pension scheme where employer matches up to 8%
There are 2 unions which it is advisable to join one , The cameras Inward facing and outward have been removed from cabs (thanks to unions they were never allowed to be used) and also yearly pay rises
I work a steady 55 - 60 hr week and take around 34K a year , job is one of easiest in industry rarely are you in back of truck , mainly back onto a bay and chillax , i’m about to hit 45 yrs i certainly hope i’m still here at 67 yrs

Sounds about right from my experience of them over the years, not been if for a couple of years but have worked there on and off since 1997, and its one of the firms that I would be applying to if I went back on the road.

I only did agency for them, but never had any issues. Yeah, you sat in the canteen sometimes waiting for a truck or the load to be ready but was never given a run that I couldn’t do in my hours and they changed it if you had been waiting and the run would put you over. 4 on 4 off would be great for me, and when I was on agency I was able to pick and choose when I worked (I worked for a decent agency who worked with me on that). The majority of the loads I did were loaded and unloaded by others, you just sat in the cab/waiting room. The only high turnover I saw was agency drivers who couldn’t string the job out and toss it off due to the runs ( i did the Alfreton, Grantham, Fav, Alfreton run sometimes and a guy who ran along side me one day needed rescuing one night as he had ran out of duty hours yet I got back, on checking why it was because he booked poa whilst tipping then had his break up the road where as I booked it whilst they were loading me at Grantham and then the 2nd one whilst they were tipping me at Fav both times with me in the cab doing sod all and at Fav having an hours kip lol)

The office staff can be abrupt but once they get to know you they’re ok, better than some I’ve worked for on that type of work, and generally leave you alone to get on with it, you ring in if you’re delayed, then ring in when tipped for reload instructions, then ring in when reloaded with what you have on and give them an ETA back into the yard. The kits decent, some trailers are a bit battered.

The only runs I didn’t like were the night out ones (not sure if they still do these)Start at 0600 ran to say Faversham and tipped then to Paddock wood dropped trailer and parked up for ‘night out’ around 1400 have 9 off and get the loaded trailer back to Alfreton for the early deliveries, and then do an early COOP Alfreton delivery and finish at about 8. So 2 days work and a night out for 16hrs pay when you could have had 2 normal days and got 24hrs pay. I only did one then kicked it into touch.

Sounds like one of the blue eyed boys is here :unamused:
The trainer with the shirt grey hair told me that forget his name not Kev before he left the other one nothing to do with rdc bull.
And as for 55 hours a week, I guess you’re either on nights or one of the moaners, they got what they wanted or they kicked and screamed till they did :unamused: :grimacing:
One of the worst places I’ve ever had the misfortune of working and most of the lads I spoke to. Didn’t like it they just stayed and put up with it for the money.

I used to do agency out of Penrith depot, loved the night trunk to Alfreton and back, get there and find shunter Nigel… " alright Nige " "alright Tone, put it on door 10, what time do you want waken up ■■? " , BRILLIANT.

Can I ask what the reply would be if I asked for only a 8-10 hour shift, on the grounds I think the overtime rate is crap?
