well said pimp, and maybe its not rocket science but it does take a certain amount of skill and the wages dont reflect this and until drivers say no, it wont change, i wont be finishing cpc as think the industry has gone shhhit because of yes men, fools to yourselves as time will tell, yeah lets all pay for a medical then a digi card then a cpc must be the only fools about to pay to get work so maybe them idiot planners arent so much of an idiot after all eh, got out while they could

Sounds like a good job, does anyone know how much they get paid, and is there a depot in Bristol?Lidl have one at Bridgend, that would be your closest, I assume its a similar pay scheme.
Thats a bit too far to commute on a daily basis, but thanks for the information.
Lidl have a RDC at Weston Super Mare and Aldi have a RDC at Swindon
Maybe you might also know who is their main agency for drivers?
no depot In Bristol
I worked in an ALDI store for just over three months eight years ago, I remember the drivers bringing the cages into the back of the store but it was usually done in the dead of night so I rarely saw them. I don’t remember them ever being helped but as said previously, they unlock etc, there’s only them there most of the time
if you enjoy working short shifts during the week and long shifts at the weekend for straight rate that’s the job .aldi don’t care about anything except goods getting to the store .you are irrelevant .while we are at it night drivers tip and load alone sometimes on scissor lifts outside stores just hope no one fancies what you have .most stores are in remote locations very dangerous at times with no phone signal at certain stores .im glad I no longer work for them one of the worst jobs I have done in my life JOKERS

Well said
I have worked for them for two months now through a subby at there Chelmsford depot. I work days so can’t comment on night work. I have to say that I find the job quite easy it only takes 45 mins to load a trailer (if everything is ready and you can get a bay) I then do a store delivery and return to chelmsford for a second store which is loaded for me so is a straight trailer swap. Yes you tip yourself at store but having always been polite to store staff they help me where possible and they always make me a cuppa. Yes the hours are long 13+ and there is no POA time either but I’m happy enough on 4 on 2 off. Yes its a lot of weekends but my wage includes weekend supplement whether I’m working them or not. All I would say is that the depot staff at Chelmsford need to get there attitudes sorted never worked with such a bunch of unfriendly people ever - get over yourselves!

Thats different then to aldi drivers cause im sure when i was there you loaded all your own trailers and it was 5 on 3 off maybe they changed it
id subbed for aldi @ atherstone on nights n yes you do have to let yourself in the stores ,turn alarms off n rest them when you leave some of which are in some dodgy places to say the least i used to carry a big mag light torch with me as it was quite heavy …and you had to load your first trailer go out tip at the store reload empty pallets, bread baskets, trays and waste cardboard and plastic bales back to atherstone tip off the emptys etc if u could get on a bay then go back round the front to reload for second run and some times you had 2 stores to do on one trailer so you could end up doing 4 stores a night and the ones with time deliverys were a PITA
I worked for Aldi in Darlington before moving to Canada in March of this year and would advise against it unless you`re really stuck for a job. My friend who works with me here and still has a son working for Aldi just recently gave me an example of the type of shifts the day drivers are now doing :
Arrive and load trailer for Chester - Le - Street store
Drive to store
Unload trailer at store and reload empties
Return to depot and unload empties
Reload trailer with fruit and veg carrier empties
drive across ind est to Allinson Yard
Unload empties with pump truck
Drive back to dc and do a repeat load of empties to Allinson yard again
Return to DC and reload trailer for Hull store
Drive to Hull store
Tip and reload with empties
Drive back to darlington
Empty trailer
Wash and fuel truck
Go home 14 hours later
This is an actual shift worked by my friends son and whilst shifts were long when i worked there this is bordering on ridiculous for many reasons.
The main problem is that your overtime rate would kick in after 45 hours, so you would do a shift like this one day and the next day you would get a 5 or 6 hour shift in order to claw the hours back from you, hence you end up working a 14 hour day for no extra pay which when you are only contracted for a 45 hour week and are still grafting 5 days a week for your flat wage is quite deflating really. This is not your average transport job where you may get some time sat around on a bay or in a dc waiting room, you are grafting hard for your full working week. This is only one example of reasons to avoid it, there are many more which if the OP wants any more info they are welcome to.
As for night working, the driver is supposed to ring in at arriving at the store and again when leaving(or in an hour)whichever comes first but this is often overlooked all round. I had to go and fetch a truck back from a store after a night driver became trapped between his truck and the dock leveller overnight. He was lucky as there were houses next door to the store but otherwise he could have been there all night.
