working for 3663

I’ve done some agy work for em delivering to prisons, and apart from getting in and out of the gatehouses no real probs, as regards handball bugger that even as a newbie I aint that stupid, I drop cage/pallet in the kitchen, It’s up to customer to break it down, elf and safety mate  . You may collect empty cages so take a spare strap if you’ve got a few drops, I found it easier to strap emptys to the side. Money wasn’t bad on agy, but early starts are the norm. Oh they do have 7.5t with electric fridges, turn the fridge off if you park up for a 45 or you won’t get going again. All in all could be a good start for your career (assuming your a newbie) and you get that all important experience.

Oh and just a footnote 3663 have just taken over the bain of my life Subway from Brakes something to bear in mind.

Probably the worst shops to deliver to.
Tiny rear back doors just enough to pass a box of crisp through.
and definately not designed for class 2 vehicles.

Totaly agree

Dont get me wrong I agree with the comment that it is a start majority of vehicles are new and have a triptronic gearbox if you get a regular run then you are half way there its just if you hit the crap doubled up routes and the Subways and the like you break your back  I coudnt do it as I am not used to it anymore perfer my loads to be on the pallet and stay on them not have to take the pallet of and handball every box and tray of chicken. But to re inforce there are worse places and it helps you with a foot in the door and gives you valuable experience.

:unamused: i just applied for possibly that job as i wanted a permanent rather than bit here an bit here job like i have been getting, at least you know you have regular work , i dont mind a bit of grafting. was that the job in the harlow depot? the applications closed monday. i know some people in the warehouse who earn ok also, i have heard some horror stories about how hard it is but one of the stories came from somebody who is massively overweight an doesent like doing a lot now, an thats pushing a pen an pretending to be authoritive! i was hoping for that job at 3663 very handy for me, anyway we will see!

So how many drops per day would you end up doing? Are you rushing like a maniac to get it done or is it basically drive round, drop the stuff and return to the depot in reasonably good time

wouldnt know, i have seen their trucks in barking high road i know they do the football grounds, so i guess a london run would be a lot of drops, but i have also seen 2 guys in a cab in north norfolk which i guess would only be a few drops then back? all will be revealed well i will ask what happens if i am lucky enough for a interview

Id be interested to know - this morning I was told I wouldnt even be getting an interview!!

Hi Steamer

Is that right youve not been offered an interview ■■? At what depot did you apply for, did you send them a CV, there must be some reason why they havnt offered an interview.

I know from friends within, that at Banbury had over 10 vacancies and the closing date was Friday 6th June…

hi, yes you didnt say which depot? i applied for harlow, closing date on their website was monday 2nd june, i got mine in the friday before, i did upload a cv but havent heard a thing? :unamused:

This was at Scarisbrick nr Southport. Ive applied before about 2 years ago but because I had only just passed my C licence he said I should get more experience. He said he would keep my details & CV etc. but usual story. Id love to know whether you are absolutely loaded up or not and rushing around to get done in time. He said all the rounds were worked out by computer and timed so you had plenty of time to get finished.

Steamer

That seems very suprising about being told that you need to get some experience… alot of newbie’s on here have applied and got jobs @ 3663.

So this tells me that they are prepared to give newbies ago, well thats the current stance.

Donpablo

Hope you hear something soon and be prepared for not just an interview, but a road assesment

yeah i hope so too! cheers!, i noticed they are all scanias i heard some have a 3 over 3 gearbox? not a problem cant be much different from a 4 over 4, funny though i have driven dafs mercs erf volvo, but never a scania!!! i would jump at the chance of a test drive !

Three over three? Whats that then? :unamused:

Donpablo

Thats not quite true, from what i have heard 3663 run various types of lorries from DAF’s to scania’s… so this means one week you could be driving a scania… week later a DAF or Volvo :unamused:

oh by the way, What makes you think they have 3 over 3’s or 4 over 4’s… that they accually have Optimate gear boxes… but thn the dont be stressing what they have until you get an invite in for an interview.

You have to work for your money mate but like Brakes (who i work for and am leaving soon for a tanker job) they take newly qualified. Look on it as a stepping stone to better things. Class2 Multidrop can be very hard work, but its like you have to put in those hard yards in this industry to get to the good jobs

i noticed they are all scanias i heard some have a 3 over 3 gearbox?

It’ll be unlikely you’ll find one in an 18tonner, 3663 do run some six wheelers and some drawbar outfits which is where they might crop up.

A Scania 3 over 3 is an odd beast.

Think 4 over 4 but with the gear pattern like this

C 2/5
R 1/4 3/6

There will be a splitter too, but the crawler might not be there.

There is no gate for the usual top left slot, it takes a bit of adjusting to, when I switch from my 3 over 3 to our 4 over 4 it takes a while especially when changing range.

Another odd thing on this box is that the range change is now a collar on the gaiter rather than the side switch which now operates the splitter.

anyway that job i applied for the end of may, with a closing date of june 2nd, i aint heard a thing not even a sorry but no thanx! anyway tommorow i got a interview via agency with their rivals brakes. pity really as 3663 is on my doorstep, well not actually my doorstep but only 3 miles away! :unamused:

I started on DBC doing about 25 drops per day, the pay was about £400/wk 3 years ago.

It was 4.30am starts and lots of handball. Sometimes you’d just drop it by the kitchen door, other drops you’d have to take it right into the pantry or fridge.

The worst drop was a school in Newham, they’d have about 4-5 cgaes full of stuff all of which had to be carried up 2 flights of stairs. There was usually one cage of crisps which was hard going after you’d lugged the other 4 cages of drinks up the stairs.

Plenty of food and drink going in the kitchens though.

You wouldnt have done that at the school I went to, not only would you be taxed for some scran, you would be lucky to have any windows or wheels left when you came back downstairs

and we complain about the kids of today

 well would you adam an eve it, an hour after me moaning i aint heard nothing, i get a call interview tommorow!!!   thats brakes an 3663 in the same day, i know a lot of you will laugh but i aint scared of hard work i just wanna support my family an keep the roof over my head, an its all good experience, really hope i do ok dont know if i may get a drive, but will take me boots an hi-viz you never know. will let you know what happens :stuck_out_tongue: :sunglasses:

Best of luck donpablo

I was given a job on 3663, I lasted for an induction day and then did one day on the road, going out with another driver.
As I’ve got a back problem I wasn’t able to do all the lifting and carrying.
I thought it would be just pushing cages on and off but no such luck.

The first delivery was up 3 flights of stairs and no lifts, the second was to a pub cellar where we had to carry all the stuff and duck under a fire escape stairway and into a sort of half size doorway to the cellar.
Worse still, the places that you could push the cage into you than had to stand there and empty the cage for them as you have to take the cage back with your or get charged for it. I hated it and told them that I wouldn’t be back.

In my twenties I would have enjoyed that sort of physical work, but theres no way I can do it now.
