when you realise it was for nothing it really does ■■■■ you off.

Think positively!

You were only driving here and there, you don’t had to get from the cab, pulling courtains or dealing with a tailift or nothing. You are sitting in warm lorry, nice music plays from your speakers, you have stress free driving as there is very small traffic on the roads and you are paid much better that for everyday hassle

Lots of folk here taking the high ground and slating folk who work Christmas, Boxing day etc.
I’ll just ask these righteous people if they’ve never been out for a meal, been to the pub, watched tv, or listened to the radio on these days?
Who the F do you think provides these services then? The Christmas bloody fairy maybe?

wont work xmas, kids and family on that day any other day i will work over the holidays, being agency i take the shifts when i can, prob be dead jan and feb

I am down to work (on-call) for the railways, moving stuff if it needs to be, Christmas Day and Boxing Day…

Told the boss, no worries, my father in law has already given me the spiel about being family time, I know that but the money that is being offered is TOOOOOOOOOOO much to refuse!!!

Show me the money…can earn in 2 days what some earn in 2 weeks!!!

Not that I am bragging!

(tin hat on…)

i thought you was going to say a month or something but 2 weeks :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: there is no way i would work xmas for 2 weeks extra money.

Would just like to say does working on rail count as an emergency service cos if they over-run on Rugby again, its another big fine for Jarvis■■?    Oh and the poor beggars that will be standing on the platforms waiting for no trains, getting cold.

Dont want the “fat-cats” losing next years bonus now do we■■?

Anyone who works xmas day is an idiot …
This is because these people encourage companies to stay open and want more people in …You know like people with family.

I’ve got no choice, we’re down to one patrol and it’s me! Tried to get leave even though I worked right through last year, it meant nothing so i’m on nights 23, 24, 25!

I finish xmas eve lunch time back on sat then away until new years day home about 1700,Asked if any thing could be changed so could be home for new years eve at least.Still waiting for an answer and we only collect eggs nothing life saveing.Might be looking for a new job in the new year as its the secand year been given the crap at holliday time :imp:

I didn’t say what proffesion…did I?

if i knew somebody who wanted something delivering on xmas day i,d gladly do it the way work is at the moment, bills have to be paid and i can eat my missus dodgy cooking any day of the week

Try telling the chooks they’ve got the day off from laying!

Feel for the poor guys who do’nt get christmas off. I am having my first weeks holiday from the 20th to 28th this year in Courchevel 1850 ski-ing with all the family. Didn’t get a summer holiday this year too busy, looks like the mayhem starts all over again from the 29th looking at my diary. Have a safe and merry Xmas to all on trucknet lets pray that the work picks up for you boys without work in the new year.

Yep I’ll go to work 6am Xmas day when my 8 year old kid is expecting me to be at home to open presents with him / play , go out in the street with new toys …
Yep , thats a one way ticket to arguments and divorce for a few extra quid :unamused: …No job is worth more than family life to me …I have every right to call people idiots Orys.

Somehow you failed to think about that some other people can have other circumstances…

Off course you can call everyone arround idiots. You also can call everyone arround “morons” “aliens” “president Sarkozy” “Jesus”, “Elephant”, “small piece of Bavarian Smoked Cheese”, “Empty can of pink paint” or “Albert Einstein”. But I am not sure who will look as an idiot at the end of the day…

The point is Mr Orys is that the more people that work Xmas day then it will slowly become the norm and people won’t be asked to do it but rather expected to be in if they like it or not.I don’t get any of the other bank holidays as it is unless I book them so lets not encourage companies to think about taking this one away aswell.Once it’s lost you will never get it back…

I’m working right through, but not driving a truck. The cows still need feeding

Possibly got a 2 hrs job on Boxing day emptying a sewerage sludge trailer, but it’s not definate, we’re trying to get the boss to do it

i went for an interview for warehouse/FLT work quite a few years ago.

the money was good, the hours per week were good, then they said it was on a rota system.

i asked what the rota was, they said 6 on, 2 off

i then asked what about bank holidays, christmas, new year, etc.

they said, 6 on 2 off

if you are rota’d to work, you work, bank holiday or not

i walked away

I agree with you. Only way is that there is many people (even in this topic) who will like to work in Christmas etc, so becouse of that companies working in Christmas is nothing bad for me, and such people can’t be called an idiots.

BUT: Work in such days should be paid extra and voluntary.

Got 2 artics loading out the christmas decorations from Selfridges 21 00-22 00 Christmas eve night (very large plastic bells & balls & the rigging to hold it all up)Been asked to do one and will find out tomorrow if it’s double bubble

a few years back, was offered work on xmas day (through agency) being on call for the highways agency, the money was alright, when i asked about the work involved, was told it was, sit at home and if needed, to go out and pick up road cones that had blown over in any local m’way roadworks! did’nt bother though.

which one would be worse?

1- just sitting down to xmas dinner and the phone ringing

or

2- sitting at home not being able to drink, in case the phone rings…and it does’nt
