Thanks Kindle 530

Theyre the people that have done it, so should be able to give good info/help.

Maybe try DHL or an international company and get a transfer to that country ?

Hi all.Dazzy, surely you must have something in your mind regarding a move abroad, such as 'which country attracts you and family, why do you want to move  ,is it for the work or quality of Life. There are many places to move to but they vary in many ways such as Lifestyle, cost of living verses wages, spending Power, acceptance and ability to fit in with the chosen Place and people.Do a great deal of research Before you make a move as it can affect you [and your family] for the rest of your Life.I have lived and worked in Holland,Afghanistan,Canada and now Lappland so have experienced the vast differences first hand.Good luck.Mike

Thanks guys,
We are looking to relocate to france as it is something we have always wanted to do but never actually got around to and our kids are older now and they really want to go our daughter who is 16 wants to be a french teacher one day she adores france, Its something we all want to do but i need a job to get us out there, I have a good job at the moment but it don’t do international work so i need to move myself over to a company that can help me.

Hi Mike,

Is your family with you and how did to get the start you needed? And were is the best place you have found? Hope you don’t me asking mate, I get on with i would say 99.9% of people I’m an out going mate and really want to give this a try

If you want a job with a froggy company then I believe you’ll have to do the froggy dCPC, which I’m told is a ■■■■ sight trickier than ours.

Best of luck tho.

Hi daidap, i thought the cpc here covered all of Europe after all its a european directive

Hi Dazzy. In my case it was a little different as i was already driving ME in the early and mid 70s and was offered a job by a Dutch co so moved. My wife was Quebecois so that is why i lived in Canada. After my wife died i retuned to Holland where lived for a total of nearly 30yrs.The Company i worked for had a lot of work up to the North of Norway in the Winter so i spent 10yrs driving up here every winter. As it is so much like Canada here with the climate, people, lifestyle and mentality i decided to move up here to finish my driving years and spend my retirement[if i don’t pop off]in a more relaxed atmosphere with a better ‘‘quality of life’’.As i am alone it is more important to be content as you grow older and the way of Life, wages, cost of living, mentality, and Environment here give me that.

Sorry Dazzy, just an add on.As regards where is the best Place, that is difficult as it is dependent on a number of factors. In Holland i was offered good work but the Life was always hard due to the density of population and pressure of work.In Afghanistan i was living in a village and working so it was different but i must say i loved the country and people in the 2 yrs i was there, but it was in a different era.In Canada i was happy as i was with my wife and her family so felt at home.As an independent immigrant things are different[this applies everywhere].Up here in Lappland i feel at home as i have been welcomed by the people. The main thing here is that you cannot compare it with the rest of Europé as it is almost as if time goes more slowly here and they are still in the 60s so you have to adjust mentality to live comfortably here.

For driving jobs abroad try Eures website.Or Job centre website wherby enter the country.Malta and Cyprus for firms that may speak English.I have seen tipper jobs there and local deliveries.
Or Canada with driving all over the Usa or Mexico.
Colleges have language evening classes or buy some self tuition tapes to learn a new language.
For France you need the FIMO to work there.
You could work for a French firm that does the UK like Jc Fiolet or Transportes Saint Arnould or Tsa…Or Norbert Dentressangle

Hi Hutpick,
You have been a real help and a pleasure to talk to I am just turning 50 in november so am looking for a slower better life style as at the moment i am working between 60 64 hours a week and thats if i don’t do a Saturday i am trying my hardest but i never seem to get to see my family and time is going so quick, We don’t have anyone else only ourselves and the kids and we would so love to try and give them a better life style were they could grow up and have a family of there own somewhere more pleasant for them as were we live at the moment is just getting harder and harder and is really not a place were we want to be. Sorry to hear about your wife me and my wife have lost some family members it is never easy and always leaves a big hole. We need a new start and its such a shame because i am a hard worker and a asset to any company but just cant get that first foot up. Daz.

Hi Dazzy.I Think you have to be very sure about where you want to go as it is easy to go somewhere as a Tourist or deliver a load, but when you move to another country it’s a different story as you have to adapt to a new way of Life\work,a different language\Culture and fit in with the locals as many people will still see you as an interloper who is stealing a locals job.And as with all countries some parts are easier to live in than others
When i moved up her i decided ''Now i shall ‘‘work to live, not live to work’’.In part i was lucky\careful as i brought my savings and paid cash for my house\car\snowscooter and quad so have no debts which makes for a relaxing feeling.I work part time here in the mine[more in the summer],now i work Mon to Thurs 10hrs a day for £150 net per day. This will continue until Xmas when the ground is too frozen to dig. Then i will relax until spring,go ice fishing, skiing, snowmobiling or just read a book,or if i’m lucky the occasional bout of wild ■■■ in front of the Wood burning stove with a ‘‘friendly’’ lady i know who seems determined to help me save heating costs.I may do the odd day snow clearing for the council in Gällivare £170 per day cash just to help the costs a bit.Otherwise i’m just relaxing and ‘‘to hell with the world’’.

Well Mike,
All i can say is you have earned and deserve the life you are living mate and i hope it continues for many years for you mate
Good luck with the friendly Lady mate must tell my wife its a fuel saving job and it has to be done haha,
Its something we have always wanted to do live in france we have over the years been to a few places but france is always the place we love if we could pack up today and move there we would without looking back but unless those numbers come up for us i am going to have to keep looking and try and find my way out there with determination and hard work. Daz

You’d think, but this is the French we are talking about here!
Type the letters FIMO and FCO into the search facility at the top of the forum page and have a look at the results.

I have no doubt our dCPC is valid in France whether we’re living there or just delivering there, but from what I read it seems the froggy companies like their own.
