circa 1980 loaded Carnforth for Jarmains Hudds
A couple here for you from Bob Hobbs site transportphotos.com
I used to collect woolsacks from the “sheep badgers” around the Forest of Dean on an S-type Bedford. Mostly a single sack at each call, no-one around to lend a hand, heaving the things up to three layers high by any means available. Good job I was young and fit in those days!
Local definition of “badger”- Dealer.

The name on the Albion`s cab door reads ; " Redpath Bros. , Wooler " . ( Northumberland ).
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Anybody got any photos of Bower Green bradford from the 1980s they ran Scania 111s doing wool. aka BG transport services
Only two photos of Scanias working for Bower Green, both taken 1983 in Bradford. Was this about the time that Terry Kimber Smith drove for them?
Knew of him from his motorcycling activities!!!
Hope Scud does not see these photos, as he may want them to be part of his ‘Wool haulier’ book, tehe.

You’re absolutely right, John,. I’d forgotten about the “sheets”. I used to spend all day collecting them (yes, all differing amounts in each one!) from around the area, then return to the depot where there would be enough “sheets” brought in by other drivers to make up the top layer. Thankfully there would also be a couple of other chaps around to help with these. Next morning I would start out for the merchants just outside Stroud, stopping every few miles to heave on the ropes where the damned things kept settling!
Inevitably it was either sweltering hot or pouring with rain! Happy days.

Evening all, didn,t peacock,s used to pull for silent night at one time?
My first driving job was at Woolcombers on Thornton road in Bradford. I used to regularly deliver to Bower Green and the likes. I used to go with my dad when he drove for Henry Longs too.
Small world.
any of you Bower Green lads remember a chap called Tony Jones? I’m sure he drove for Bower Greens during the 80’s he then went to be a traffic warden and unfortunatly passed away maybe 10 years since.
