Boots O’Lead:
We just had a manual handling course the other week - one of the first things the instructor says “the old rules are out, there is now no set weight limit for lifting - it’s up to the individual”…right, another con to allow your boss to try to bully you into doing things you shouldn’t - especially when the creeps don’t cover sick pay

typical army whats the word yes [zb] they will never change
If you have to put stars in to get it 'round the word sensor, that’s a hint it’s not allowed! L.
I left the mob a while ago, this course was with Salvesen. Incidentally I did a drop today at an H&S mans house so I asked him about it, his answer ‘yes (dubious) we’d allow that but we still recommend limits of 25kg for men and 16kg for women’. Thats from a man who works for the HSE.
At least in the Army you get full pay when you’re sick and they issue you with everything you need to do a job, there are plenty of dissapointments in the outside world and most of them cost you money.
boots o’lead, i was in the forces for just under 12years,left in 94.yes they do give you the equipment but still [zb] you.part off the course i suppose.
I think if you ask many of the squaddies who have served in a theater of war the armed forces do not supply uou with all the equipment you need. Think of the poor woman whose husband was shot dead due to the army not having sufficient bullet proof vests. Rest my case.
My heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones through the armed forces supplying all the equipment you need.
Believe it or not, a bulletproof vest is not required to do the job. That is all I will say on the subject in this thread as it is moving off what I consider to be a serious topic.
If you wish to discuss that point of view, I suggest you open a thread to cover it
