Money vs stress for 2 days pay owed

Got a job that I left after 2 days driving a skip wagon which I was trained on for the 2 days.

Company that I worked for will not pay me for them days and has made up a story saying if you leave before a week as they trained me they do not have to pay me.

Sent them a letter requesting payment.

got an invoice back for 360 quid for training cost for the 2 days lolz.

I understand they are ■■■■■■ but why lie about it?.
Talked to acas and it comes down to money and time of which I don’t have.
Heads up to anyone else going for a job the says don’t worry as full training will be given, ask if it is free and get it in writing.

Not sure they can bill you for job training, unless it was agreed in writing the cost of it was payable if you left within x amount of time.

I reckon a few laughs were exchanged in the office when they responded to you with that invoice.

Yup i’m sure.

No stress or hassle needed. Did you ever see a contract? If you did, tell them you want paying for your work. Ask them to also show you where in the contract theres a severance fee for training.

No contract seen they said in the invoice the training fee was discussed/agreed in the interview, nothing was. :unamused:

Unless you were daft enough to sign a binding contract that you were not to be payed during training then you cannot lose this one.

This is a classic unlawful deduction of wages & unless Mr. Skippy has a legally binding piece of paper with your signature on it he has no defence.

It will cost you the price of a recorded delivery letter at most.

I don’t want to sound harsh,
But you’ve wasted their time and money.
Just put it down to experience.
If you do sue them, they’ll surely counter claim.

What sort of training did you receive?Any dead time in the yard or office? If it was ‘on the job’ did it decrease the lorry’s revenue because you were being trained? I’m just wondering
how/why they arrived at £360.Surely they have to justify that in detail and prove that you agreed to it.

They still have to pay you for the 2 days as its a separate matter from the training even though they’re counter-claiming the cost and that comes to more than the wages.

Take their invoice down to the job centre.

Invoice not recognised, the amount is disproportionate to any potential loses

Was on the job training, showing me how to pickup and drop/tip skips as id only ever done rollon offs/hook loaders.

360 was 150 pound a day training plus vat.

Had a text before I wrote the letter to them in response to my text for the 2 days pay saying no payment due as the training days are unpaid unless I work for at least a week to cover the cost of training.

And this job is on the job centre website and is doesn’t state anything about training costs.

Straight back to the job centre

Who was it for? Sounds like the sort of firm who run other skip firms cast offs and “sort” the waste by burning it.

Pout it down to experience and move on, most skip/tipper firms run by their own rules. Now you’re an experienced skip driver

Did you drive a truck fitted with a digi for the 2 days? If not it would be pretty hard to prove you ever worked there with no contract in place. Plus it would cost you a bit to recover the money. Anyway, what was so stressful about the 2 days if you were on training?

Two days training ? :astonished: how long does it take to learn what lever to pull/push and to ask …'Where you want this skip mate?
two days training versus two days working IMO cancels each other out, so move on and forget it.
