Hi Jim,I can’t remember how many units we had but I know we had 98 trailers on the books. Some were outbased at Malton,Ashton,Winsford and Whitchurch though. We had several subbies working for us a well.

was it all supermarket RDC work ? 98 trailers . . hope you had help with the shunting !!

It was the Malton Bacon contract Jim,part of Unigate. All RDC deliveries,24/7 including starting Xmas Day night. Shunters were on 4 on 4 off,one on days two on nights.I have been trying to work out how many trailers were outbased and came to the figure of 18,so if we got the yard full at Maltby we’d got 80 on site.It rarely happened because there were so many on the road.Busiest 24 hours was wednesday night to thursday dinnertime, usually up to 60 loads going out, sometimes more. Not bad for a small depot with only six loading docks - there were seven but one was always taken up for Geest products,a contract Wincanton took on when we were hard pressed to do the MBF contract, never mind another one.

thats what i ended up on,4x12 hours-4off. . 3 shunters on days 2 on nights. . best thing i ever done . . kept me away from the M25!
