Jim,did those milk tanks have baffles or were they straight through? I’m sure I read somewhere that milk tanks didn’t have baffles so they were easier to clean. I remember A E Evans had an stainless ex milk tank without baffles on the tar products job out of Orgreave and with it only being half full for 24 ton gross it could be a handful when swilling about.
hi chris, none of our tanks had baffles. . we had 1-2 and 3 compartment tanks. . sometimes we had a rocky ride home. before the inplace cleaning system the cleaners used to climb inside the tank down a rope ladder.

Tilcon had a Foden eight legger bitumen tanker Chris and I took it for its annual test to Derby, it had about ten tons on board, when I came to the STOP sign to join the A515 the truck stopped but the load didn’t!! Ended up halfway across the road with it, boy did that learn me a lesson.

Aye Pete.I sometimes did the tar job out of BSC Orgreave when the regular driver was on holiday or sick. We used to take absorbing oil out to Appleby-Frodingham and crude tar back. The oil wasn’t so bad as it was lighter than tar so the tank would be fairly well loaded but tar was heavier and you really rocked about going back to Sheffield.

We had some 2800s up at Darlaston E regs, I think the drivelines where fitted the wrong way round went quicker in reverse than forward
when our depot got lumbered with a 2300 we put it under a small tank . it went ok runnung at 24 ton !
