It is what it is, no foreign import of labour and the economy becomes stagnated
Employers all pay the same rate even though everyone is crying out for people
No point in moving job for same money
Even though there would be a massive shortage it would be the employer who holds all the cards because there is nowhere different
Makes you think
Mate you have it all wrong, unshakeled from European “labor laws” , Great Britain will now able to go out into the international market place and recruit the cheapest people from around the WHOLE world.
Just fall in line and go on the benefits whilst your job gets done by a Fijian Indian, those guys literally work for rice.

There could not be any cheaper labour here already, so your saying cheaper look what’s happening now so it’s going to get worse
Just think of all the old Commonwealth countries, they have a massive labour pool, the agencies will be queuing up to get them signed up,

Is there any one left in them, they all seem to be living in the UK as it is, and the rest
Don`t worry the Brexit supporting economist Professor Patrick Minford said in 2012
"told MPs on Westminster’s foreign affairs committee that car manufacturers in the UK would have to be wound down if Britain left the EU. In the run-up to the referendum in 2016 he also said Brexit would eliminate manufacturing.”
Brexiter Jacob Rees Mogg has said Minford “deserves to be listened to because of his remarkable track record”.
So there we are, not lower wages for truck drivers.
There won`t be any truck drivers as we will have no industry for them to service.

Pretty much this. There will never be a labour “shortage” again after brexit. And if you thought the Romanians and Poles were cheap, you’re in for a big shock.

That’s a laugh bearing in mind that our ‘industry’ was long ago lost to EU imports now moved by third country East Euro operations or rail.
Even Stevie Wonder could see that the Brit road transport industry has already degenerated into a largely local multi drop delivery service.Along the lines of whatever dregs are left after the East Euros and Rail Freight operators have taken what they want. The total removal of cabotage regs would make all that so much better.Making it a straight fight between East Euro cabotage v foreign owned Euro rail freight operators for whatever might be left that’s worth doing from the driver’s point of view.

But we can already do that. Being in the EU doesn’t stop that happening.
As for wages declining, I don’t think so. As the tap of easy accessible European labour is turned off it’ll go up as haulage isn’t going to be placed on the Tier 2 visa list any time soon.
Already the agency where I’m at are panicking and we’ve just had a 9% wage rise to go on top of the 6% wage rise we had the year before on the contract I’m on to ensure they can retain the drivers they’ve got and get enough drivers to cover the busiest period of the year. Agency some nights can form 50% of the shift and apart from 3/4 of us the rest are Eastern Europeans. During their busy period agency form over 50% of the entire fleet.

The vast majority of lorries aren’t servicing the manufacturing industry. The majority of trucks are moving food, parcels and goods for purchase at retail.

How do you come to this completely wrong conclusion? Anyone who comes to the UK will need to be coming for a job that’s on the Tier 2 Visa list or seasonal agricultural workers. Haulage won’t be going on Tier 2 any time soon. The number of places for Tier 2 vacancies are restricted and it takes a fair bit of time to get a Tier 2 visa. An employer wanting to get an employee under a Tier 2 Visa would have to prove they’ve exhausted the entire UK job market and not been able to find one and “can’t find someone who will work for peanuts” isn’t a qualifying reason - Border Agency would expect you to have advertised the vacancy with a competitive salary.
And then to finish off your argument there’s a thing called the national minimum wage and they won’t be working for less than that.

Not quite a load of ■■■■■■■■.
Many incoming (and existing foreign workers) WILL quite happily drive an artic for minimum wage though, plenty places in the North West still only just hitting £10 per hour for Mon-Fri days.
If haulage companies can keep putting bums on seats for a tenner an hour, why would they put it up? It might be uncomfortable for many on here but the fact is cheap labour WILL keep lorry drivers wages low and there is a plentiful supply of artic steerers available unfortunately. Don’t believe the hype, THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF LORRY DRIVERS.

From experience of the ‘old’ Canadian system of non qualifying jobs it should also remain advertised until an indigenous worker wants/takes it.At which point any foreign labour doing it is then sent home no ifs no buts.
While it seems clear at present that the situation has reached the point where East Euro drivers are asking the question why come here for low grade work when they can stay at home for better.Bearing in mind that the wage v cost of living equation also isn’t a simple unquestionable one in favour of working here.

Aren`t you assuming that the new Gov and any post Brexit Gov will run with the current rules?
That is the idea of Brexit after all, to change the existing situation.
“Michael Gove has admitted the UK Government must relax post-Brexit immigration rules to ensure foreign workers are attracted into the fish processing industry.
The UK Environment Secretary conceded current plans for a £30,000 minimum salary threshold for skilled foreign workers did not suit the north-east seafood sector.
Giving evidence to MSPs, Mr Gove said the UK Government must “look flexibly” at the proposal, adding that he had raised his concerns with Home Secretary Sajid Javid.”
August this year.
Previously Gove has spoken (February 2018) of replacing seasonal agricultural workers from East Europe with “workers from around the world.”
As soon as there is a shortage of cheap drivers under the current rules, VOILA! new rules.
The Brexiteers are after less regulation, they want less controls; those rules you cite are hardly safe in the hands of an ERG influenced Tory Gov.

Which selectively misses the point that we don’t have to stay with a Tory government after Brexit.Bearing in mind that the EU is founded on free market principles. You know the same ones which every Tory government since Heath’s has been happy with.Resulting in the wholesale massacre of Brit industry and union power.Strange how you seem to have no problem with pro EU Tories in that regard obviously including Thatcher.

Great.Removal of all cabotage restrictions will fix everything.
IF there is no deal. For a short time there will be no change.
Then the churn of imported drivers will decrease. And the big transport co’s will do what they have done for a while and cry a shortage. No government, be them blue, red, pink or green will want to carry the can for not enough cans of baked beans on a shelf. So they will import drivers on mass.
Road haulage is too important for them not to do something. It’s the first sign to a normal person that something is wrong, and it’s easy to fix. Just make an exemption for EE drivers.
If Brexit is a sucess you will need the drivers. If it’s a failure you will need the drivers to hide that. Anyone who thinks wages will go up significantly is a fool and deluded.
