Anyone using these and how do you find the steering compared to standard 295 tyres? I realise 385’s can be used up the the 9tonne limit which obviously helps with diminishing loads but ive never found it to be a problem with my 4x2 long wheelbase FH. Are they mainly used for better steering/ tyre wear or maybe to have a little peace of mind ref front axle loading with shorter wheelbases when half empty with a load to the headboard?

Aye but give you a good pull when you hit a decent puddle, once you have had them for a while feel no different to normal width tyres, but they do help with keeping the front axle right for the weights especially if you run them on an uprated axle.

They also lift the front end up a little handy for site work
Iirc putting super singles on a 7.5 tonne axle only took it up to 8 tonne , the one we did wouldn’t uprate any higher .
We put then on for more floatation as we spend a bit of time in fields, haven’t noticed any side effects
They do get caught in the ditch more easily as they are 3 inches wider than normal 295 tyres

Genuine question, why were they fitted? I would imagine its nothing to do with having the extra weight capacity being a 6x2…

To match the frilly curtains and chrome mirror covers…
They seem to be particularly useful on rigids if the truck also has a 9t front axle, but I don’t know how well needed they are on an artic. The ones I really cannot understand are those who have super singles on the lift axle.
I’ve got super singles on the front and lift axle, simply I think because they look cool!

And your boss paid for them.
Having super singles on the front and lift axle because they look cool surely isnt practical though is it what with the extra weight and cost?
Is there a parrot coming my way…
I’m sure there’s been stuff about this in the owners/ operators forum about them knocking bushes and bearings out.
As for looks, some trucks need them! The big cabbed mercs look, well, silly with out super single, and yet other trucks look silly with them fitted…

Cost isn’t high on the list when ordering some trucks
I like putting trailer parts on tractor units too and it’s why I’ve got a roller shutter door instead of a windscreen.

Maybe he hasn’t seen your truck, but from new like yours, why wouldn’t you fit both steer and midlift, then as the steer wear, you can swap around with the mid lift, no brainer

Must be a pain in the neck though having to lean out the window to drive i’d imagine…
I have these on the steering axle. 8 ton front axle…
