Why would the police?

I was on the a41 last night at whitchurch i think it is? When I seen blue lights and a brand new new unmarked white evoque came flying past. Can someone please tell me why the police need all these high end expensive cars? Seriously winds me up how the government spends a quarter of our yearly earnings.

Police Lada v’s Bad boy Subaru.

You’d be amazed how cheap the police buy their cars. They will pay less for that than we would pay for something modest.

Don’t know of any car faster than a radio…

Probly a freebie from JLR.

I agree no car faster or safer than a radio

because when they`re travelling at speed they need a car that can hanle it. :bulb:

Was it the police or a fire officer ? They have white unmarked cars…

A lot of Police forces use cars they have confiscated. Perhaps it previously belonged to a drug dealer.

A few forces get them free for say 12 months, we got an M5, a lexus IS200, and a few others i cant recall from manufacturers cos in some people’s eyes its a good advert I.e volvo’s seen as reliable and safe etc.

We were always getting offered evo’s free to test, but force wouldn’t pass them through some test or other (memory bit faded) which meant couldn’t accept them.

Having been blown out the water in a Volvo (loaded with kit) by a civic type r, I would see the advantage to having one, but I can see the poor public image and yeah some will abuse it and ■■■■ about.

Funny how the fleet manager had the same make as the cars actually used…

They have a job to do like most people. They are highly trained and are there to catch dangerous criminals.Ask yourself if you were a traffic cop and had an emergency that had to be answered quickly would you want a cheap banger or something decent to do the job?
Do you like a newer truck or do you want an old slow one?

I think his point is why a BMW when they could have a Vectra

That was true, there was even a specialist Police Volvo built with gun cabinets and heavy duty suspension & electrics. It was listed on the dealer sheets. The local dealer got the benefits of PDI, spare parts and warranty work.

Cos as mentioned the discount available when bulk buying maybe better with BMW than Vauxhall, bare in mind these are bog standard fleet spec usually but not always.

Or maybe as said a freebie/test.

To be fair the Panda cars aren’t up to much

Yeah but an Evoque!!! It’s not quite a 4x4 which you can fill the boot with cones and first aid kit and its not quite a pursuit car with its straight line speed and precision cornering.

Just a ■■■■ poor good for nothing car.

Some of them might not always be as good drivers as they’d like to think they are but most of them are still bright enough to know that you need something with the engine in the front and the power going to the rear wheels.Preferably the more power the better and a manual box.The question in that case why a BMW instead of a VXR8. :bulb:

bet their rear wheel drive BMW saloons/estates did really well in the snow this week…

Ages ago I deliveried into the station at Carlisle to be greeted by a fully uniformed Audi Q7, and it wasn’t the entry level model! A close look and it had “Audi Press Department” across the bottom of the number plates so was obviously a demo for them.

Surprisingly there’s probably as much,if not more, weight on the rear wheels of a rwd car, taking into account the rear suspension and driveline set up,than there is on the front wheels of a mickey mouse small engined fwd car,in addition to which is the load carried in the boot of the average police car and the fact that the thing has more traction from a standstill under power because of the rearward weight transfer and the non existence of torque steer and it can still be steered when it loses traction.Which i why the VXR8,like most other decent cars, has the engine in the front and the rear wheels put the power on the road and it’s also why the law like proper cars. It’s also why SAAB and Rover are gone but BMW are still in business.

Up here the weapon of choice is still the mighty V70. Usually in D5 and AWD Guise. gives them the best of both worlds.
