Why would a company want you to become a o/d

Also, there’s sometimes a clause that states you cannot haul for other firms. They don’t want you earning from their truck when they don’t get a cut  It can be more like a franchise than being a true o/d.

how many more times wheelnut :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: ,there gar you work ,youll not need to haul for anyone else :unamused: :unamused: :frowning: :frowning:

You can say it as many times as you like but the fact remains that there is no such thing as guaranteed work in this game. They can tell you all they want that it is guaranteed but you can bet your bottom dollar that if they go quiet or there is a contract loss that you’ll be out on your ear. You won’t get it in writing, that’s almost certain and if you do it won’t be that they guarantee enough to make a profit, just enough to stop you defaulting on the payments you owe them for the truck and diesel…

Paul, you cannot educate pork!

no-and you cant put nowt where there aint nowt can you U-NUT,ARE YOU HAVING A ZB SENIOR MOMENT,IF NOT GET YOUR SELF DOWN THE DOCTORS AND GET A TEST FOR DEMENTURE,YOULL ■■■■ IT

Well go to see the man in charge and tell him you want to do it. Just because they are asking for trampers doesn’t mean they wont consider you. I hope you do it to come back and prove me and the others wrong. I Gar that not all Stobart trampers will do this. I Gar that you will lose money and I Gar you will only earn enough to cover the lease and fuel in quiet times.

Gar :stuck_out_tongue:

its no wonder this countrys going in the direction it is,down hill fast, when every one is so negative about everything, excellent oppertunities here for folks to better them selfes, whith no risk to themselfes,if i was a tramper my name would be top of the list, then when i come back in a year or two time telling you how well i was doing youd still be negative, positive outlook is what folks need

You are best with a realistic attitude rather than either a positive or negative one.

It is not a good time to enter the road haulage industry.

Don’t be putting him off Harry. :unamused: Ady as an OD would be the funniest thing this site has ever seen. He’d be like Karl Pilkington from An Idiot Abroad, except it’d be An Idiot In A Truck instead.

Seriously Ady1 I know that it seems like a good opportunity but don’t be so naive to think that Stobarts are doing this for the benefit of their drivers.

Think about it - If they got a load of trampers to take out a franchise (because thats what it is - its certainly not an owner driver job in the real sense) they stand to save a small fortune.

For each driver they would no longer have to pay - Sick leave, holiday pay, national insurance, pension subs and any insurance excess for accidents to name but a few.

I’m certainly not saying that you could not make a good living from it as you probably could with it being such a huge company, but you need to remember that the company will always try and sell anything like this in a positive light to its employees. But at the end of the day it will be them that will be quids in.

It’s basically about control. Once you sign on the dotted line, they own you, pure & simple.

is this guy for real?come on boys he is winding you up.how many people have told him the real story, and he still keeps drawing you in!!!

With all the “gar” noises he makes he should be called baby1 not ady1. In fact baby1 is a more appropriate name for him even without the noises.

personal insults really are unesscessary and say more about the author than the intended target,
(just like editing posts)
only one way to find out if becoming a franchisee with this compay is to go and ask the questions you want to ask and decide from there, always look at the bigger picture, tax benefits, asset ownership etc

Lrm

If they are guarunteeing profits…just think why they are not prepared to put the vehicles on the road themselves instead of wanting people to be o/d’s.

Sounds alot like someone in management has come up with applying the quarry “franchised haulier” model to the tramping work.

Say no more!!

Back in the mid 80’s A1 transport from Leeds, anyone remember them  :unamused:  were offering the same deal to become an OD and whats weird was they came up with this ‘great opportunity’ right after a big splash of national publicity for the company

If a big transport company wants to hive off a certain section of it’s operation and give their drivers the chance of becoming OD’s it’s definetly going to make them more profit and give the new OD’s less in their pocket and bigger headaches than they have now as employed driver’s GAR’d :unamused:

It’s all been done before and I’m sure there are still some of us around who thought it sounded great at the time with all the GAR’s but got our fingers burnt :exclamation: :exclamation:

Gar work, Gar money, Gar truck, Gar payment, Gar profit, Gar headache
Guaranteed Bollox :exclamation: Whatever ‘High Profile’ and reputation the company may have :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused: :unamused:

Dave, you cynical devil you! It’s people with no vision that are holding the transport business back! Why SHOULDN’T successful companies give away huge GAR profits  :unamused:
