I can just about agree with the cat c to give someone a leg up but to then fund cat c+e straight away is a joke, why not get a job on rigids and fund it yourself.
I suppose if they funded everyone just for the class 2 then the shortages for the class one wont be filled. Also there may not be enough jobs to cover just class 2s. If we lose the job in a class one then we get class 2 jobs as a backup or vice versa.
I wouldnt mind paying the money back - have had budgeting loans from the jobcentre and money taken out each week of the benefit.
I worked out my benefits including housing, tax credits, child benefit etc and it comes to £1300 every 4 weeks.
So that works out approx £325 a week.
By working I will be worse off - where is the incentive to work??
I worked out that 50 hours a week at £8 an hour = £400 - minus tax & n.i., fuel to get to work, lunch money plus more importantly time away from my kids and watching Jeremy kyle (joking).
So how do you think the rest of us go on!!!
well being employed doesnt seem to be much fun.
all it looks like is you worry about where the taxes go and look down on the unemployed.
even if the unemployed finds work with the help from the jobcentre then that is also moaned at.
if we find work and if its through an agency then we can also we frowned upon and called a limper.
i dont see the unemployed moaning about the employed - they may want more benefits etc but they seem happier and have no worries.
why does it look better to be unemployed?
Not what’s been said at all, I really don’t see why the unemployed should get straight to class 1 when so many that pay their own way have to do class 2 first so they can raise more money. I don’t look down on those that are unemployed and genuinely looking for work .
I am not sure if this fella is on a wind up. Coming on here and telling lad’s that you have had a demanding time, when there are blokes on here who have grafted away in crap jobs to gain class 2 and can’t find work.
As has already been said; If you are lucky enough to have your C paid for, get on the rigid’s and use it. Then you can save up for CE like the rest of us.
Oh, and you can pay the £3000 back to me and the other working folk in the UK.(Because you said you wouldn’t mind paying it back).
this is a pretty obvious wind up beaver, this subject crops up again and again, this whole thread was started on the pretense that the jobcentre are herding sheep through the class 1 thereby devaluing our licences. it’s not the case, for most of the country you would have to have an offer of work in writing to get half your license paid for, I’m sure that there are areas that do pay for your training from time to time but it’s rare. before you ask, I funded my own licenses but when I was on the dole many years ago, I did try to get the funding without success.
they don’t even pay for flt training anymore so I don’t think the jobcentre will be churning out class 1 drivers any time soon.
remember muddatrukka? you and he had a right debate on this subject. I think the op, is trying to provoke a reaction, then playing devils advocate. it seems that a newbie to the board (50 odd posts) is just trying to stir up the hornets nest.

Sorry I didn’t realise I needed your permission to start a discussion just because I’m a “newbie” and it seems a “troll”. I have just paid out the best part of £1500 with a retest for cat c and put a deposit down for c+e while working long hours for not much more than minimum wage. So your saying I’m a troll and not entitled to an opinion is quite honestly laughable.
Edited.
If you think applying for your medical and doing a few theories is demanding do us all a favour and stay out the industry! The majority of rigid work is basically manual labour with a bit of driving thrown in, and you need to be on the ball mentally all day.
I think you’re just trolling but if not, god help us all!!
I was voluntarily unemployed so didn’t sign on, didn’t need or want to but if I ever had to sign on, I’d be doing everything I could to get a job wether I wanted that type of job or not. I’ve paid for my training tests and retests and worked 7 days a week in jobs I hated to get there. I don’t disagree with the funding help for people getting the tests etc through the job centre but only if the person has a strong desire for it and pays it back.
I’ll be thinking about this thread tomorrow morning when i get out of bed at 0330 yet again, the same sort of time i’ve done (on days) for the past 40 years in bloody lorries, no doubt some of the thousands of other poor bleary eyed knackered buggers young and old doing the same for as many years past or will do for many years to come will be thinking similarly.
We’ll all be chuffed to buggery for those who get it given, whilst we had to scrimp and save and worked all hours God sent to get our tickets, in most cases because we wanted to be lorry drivers.
+1 squirty flower wearer. I am up half an hour after you.
Just think while you wipe the sleep out of your mince pies, what a valuable humanitarian service we are providing.

+2 Although at 3:30am I’m 2.5 hours away from finishing a 12 hour night shift.
But it’s all about the dosh, and I HAVE to work for mine!
Pity I couldn’t save myself 3k and have the tax payer give me my licences.
Well we can all look forward to suppressed wages thanks to this…
Don’t worry mate, they’ll probably still have a better work ethic than you
Just kidding mate. I’m supporting myself at the minute but have a work offer starting in a few weeks. Never had to sign on yet and certainly wouldn’t see it as an easy ride if I did, would be a last resort!!
It won’t drive wages down, they couldn’t get any lower haha
Just my opinion and 10 pence worth but have to agree with how it grinds my gears (almost as bad as I did in that poor daf cf on day 1) that as like many I’ve worked long demanding hours for 8 years to support my young family, paying all the bills, providing all that’s necessary and then find the money to put aside and get my HGV and all that’s required to get me on the road to then find a new employer willing to give a new driver a chance whilst it appears on benefits you can pretend to do a bit of job hunting and they’ll then hand out HGV courses left right and centre to anyone. Ok not much of an issue with that if it gets someone who wants to work in the industry in to it but once in employment you should at least have to put the money back in the kitty. How else are the hardworking families supposed to react?

+1, have to agree mate. I had a full blown argument on here with someone ages ago on the same subject. Of course there’s two sides, but it’s the principle ain’t it? I guess it depends what side of the fence your on
It’s just cost me the best part of £1500 to get cat c with a retest & I know for a fact that the dole are paying for tests, just plain wrong.

Can see why you did mate, we’ve all spent serious cash getting where we are and JSA are giving it all away. There are genuine cases that may need the help but still should be made to repay once they are sorted at the least. I guess at least we can all be proud that we got where we are through our own hard graft.

congrats on passing your test.
dont see why its wrong to help the unemployed - shall the people who want to work stay on the dole and claim benefits which add up to much more than paying for the course
a lot of the people on here are so bitter and mean
for the people who said they have worked or work in crap jobs etc - sod that. life is too short.
i have never done a job longer than five minutes (literally) if i couldnt stand it.
i have been self employed and had long hour jobs but then i looked around and saw all the dole people sunning themselves on the beach, going on holidays whenever they want, having lots of things i couldnt afford or have the time to do them. i thought what the hell is going on here. something is wrong. so i joined them.
signed on for a number of years and done more in my life in those years than i did in the working years. dont knock it till you try it.
i intend to do some driving for the next few months to see if i like it. it may be the people i dont like if most of them are as bitter and twisted as some on here.
if not at least i didnt pay for my licence so will see what else the jobcentre can do for me.
