Why won't they move over?

Is anybody else experiencing this lately? I am driving along the motorway in lane 1, i see a slow moving vehicle in front. I then put on my indicator to overtake, lane 3 is clear, however lane 2 has a car in it and they just sit there! Why the hell don’t they move over?? Also while i’m on the subject of car drivers is 53mph the new limit on motorways?

Because they haven’t seen your indicator, they don’t look further than the end of their bonnet.

This^^

Have you never started to pull out at a roundabout and had to stop then noticed how many car drivers coming round the island are completely oblivious to your existence until just before they’re about to run into you :open_mouth:

Probably because its too much aggro for them, they then have to mirror signal manoeuvre and that is just too much, so they stay in the middle lane ( the comfort zone ) :smiling_imp:

And also why do people go 45 mph when its a 50 mph limit on the motorway but when they reach a 70 mph limit they go 80 mph.

YES!

It’s got to the point where if there is a slower vehicle a long way in front and I see a line of middle lane sheep in my mirror in the distance I will pull out up to 200 yards away from the lorry in front before the middle lane herd catches up.

■■■■ em, let them use the outside lane or undertake me.

Also, have you noticed how they speed up the second they see your indicator? They were happy to pootle along at 56.1 mph until they saw the indicator.

Yes and those sheep are ■■■■■■■ me off, i would like to know how we got to this, if you start to undertake they speed up also the muppets, why don’t they all do what people do in Europe and bog off!!

Not only car drivers.
How many times have you sat behind a truck on a single carriageway at 40. coz its the limit, and as soon as they hit the dual, 50 limit, then there up on the limiter

Apparently this is recognised as “Cricket Pitch Vision” and usually effects drivers (usually car drivers) who are not used to driving for any real distance on long multi lane carriage ways.

This is where, after driving for a certain amount of time on a motorway / dual carriage way,the drivers vision and distal awareness naturally relaxes to about the length of a cricket pitch. The brain does not register anything approaching the perimeter of this field of vision until it crosses the brains “boundary”, waking up the driver and then causing them to react.

This is why you see people approaching the rear of a large vehicle in front of them and we think “they haven’t seen him!!” and then sure enough, at the last minute they react, maybe dab the brakes or flick the indicator on then realise they have no where to go!! They really haven’t “seen” the vehicle!!

The same applies when you want to overtake the vehicle in front of you. You indicate in good time your intention / need to move out into lane 2 but the car already approaching in lane 2 shows no sign of having seen you and so trundles on until suddenly you encroach into their field of “Cricket Pitch Vision” and then they react, usually to late, thus causing you to loose your speed advantage and be unable to complete the overtake or they brake heavily blaming you for wanting to pull out in front of them or worse case scenario, swerve into lane 3 in panic thus causing further mayhem. The reason later given being that they didn’t see you, you didn’t indicate until the last minute etc etc.

In reality they had slipped into the “Cricket Pitch Vision” state and were simply not aware of you even being there!!

Dumbed down drivers for dumbed down roads. The only way to teach the zb’s to drive properly is to remove all speed limits from motorways and make them pass the test having shown that they can drive safely at not less than 150 mph. :bulb: :open_mouth:

It was only a matter of time :unamused:

If I didn’t know better i’d say you were joking

a slight drift into lane 2 before actually making your lane change usually wakes them up!

I have one such(zb) on the M6 sb on the thelwall viaduct the he was driving an old rover i was in a 7.5t doing 70mph (b4 they changed the regs)

I was in lane 2 approaching slower vehicles at the start of the climb up the bridge so 3 into 4 lanes (both had no or very little traffic in them ,some distance further back) i indicated for at least 60seconds the (zb) still sat at my tail , in the end i said to myself(zb) it ,i’m out and pulled out, the muppet certainly saw me them, lol

I heard the squeal of tyres followed be the horn, lol,
then a short time later it overtook me(he found the accelerator pedal) !! some window licker, giving me the 2 finger salute, lol then testing his brakes in front of me & trying to slow me down,

But i have the feeling he got the hint that i was not for slowing or intimidated by his testing of brakes, especially if he was any good at reading lips via his mirror, lol (talk about inches from his rear bumper), this was witnessed by another driver ,who just gave me the thumbs up and said nice one,lol

Motorway muppets is what they are, the worst cases are in rush hours the can’t fathom out what speed the vehicle in front is traveling at (either dropping back to far or having to brake to avoid hitting the car in from) that causes plenty of tail backs m62 westbound in a morning approaching Manchester used to be a prime example

Ive even come across one complete (zb) that was clueless on the m40 sb near the m25 or had just past it, it would of been around 8pm on a nice summers evening this time i was in a sprinter van, next to no traffic on the motorway I travelling at 70-80mph in lane 2 ,then i saw this car in lane 3 going very slow, so to overtake it i got into lane 3 behind the vehicle which was doing around 60mph, as i followed it for a short while waiting for it to indicate and change into lanes 2 or 1 both where empty(so was the drivers head) nothing, so i flashed my lights a few times still nothing apart from it slowing a little, lol, so enough was enough, i moved into lane 2 then into lane 1, motorway still empty

As i was drawing alongside the car the passenger was on her mobile phone, looking at me ( i got the feeling that they were pretending to or even phoning the police lol) i just waived after a bit of finger wagging no rude gestures btw, if i had been the plod taking the call i would of been asking why they failed to let me pass (moved in to lane 2) and why where they driving at a slow speed in lane 3 when no traffic existed in both lanes 2 &1 in fact i would of sent them a summons, idiots

you are worse than they are

you have to remember that most drivers are not driving badly on purpose ,it`s because they are crap.try not to take it personally.

I know it isnt good to do this but i have done it before. Just gives them an idea of what i am trying to do.
The amount of times i have been let out by a car into lane 2 who has just sat behind me even though lane 3 is clear. Then when i pull in they go up behind the next overtaking truck. Never understood why they do this. To be honest i think the standard of driving is very very poor, especially on motorways.

I had some muppet in a fiesta in the m1 s/b roadworks near bedford, constantly speeding up and slowing down, but every time I needed to change lanes there he is sat right alongside the side of my cab and matching my speed exactly I couldnt see the driver from where he was but after he moved to lane one to exit and I was passing him, sure enough the ■■■■ is on the phone.

they are a pain in the rear i had one today he was half way up side off me i indicated to pull out just to inform numptys behind i wanted to be out the driver upside off then proceeded to do an emergency stop to let me out nearly causing a three car pile up wot an [zb]. :unamused:

I had one of these last week on the A47. Another thing that annoys me is truck drivers that see me indicate to overtake a slower one and immediately start overtaking me, and prevent me from pulling out.

I will never pull out on someone but if there is nothing in lane 3 I’ll just proceed to pull out, then they will ease off or break THEN overtake. It’s got to the point where if there is a group of them in my mirror that I know will block me in by the time I catch up to the lorry in front I’ll pull out way before just to keep them behind me.
Completely agree with the above posts about them not looking beyond their bonnet, shocking really.
