Why the attitude to class II drivers?

I’ve seen it mentioned here before and I’ve seen it on the road.

Class 1 drivers look down on Class II drivers. They flash in the artic that overtakes them, but won’t flash in a rigid.

If a class 2 flashes in an artic they never say thankyou, but when they overtake the artic ahead of you and get flashed in they say thanks.

They stare at you when you are reversing at an RDC as if you are driving a robin reliant, they glare at you if you park in the lorry park in a MSA as if you should be parking in the car park.

Is this a size issue? The worst cases I’ve seen tend to be short fat old men thinking they are above everyone else cos their office bends in the middle.

no attutude here always treat class2 and 7.5t even some vans with same as class 1. when few vans dont say thanks then i wont help them for rest of day lol never noticed the above what you said so you must of just caught every one on a bad day

Another thing, right … I overtake a class 1 on a level motorway and pull in, then a mile later we hit a downhill. The class 1 uses the downhill to overspeed and get half way past me, then the hill levels out to a straight and he cant get past, yet he expects me to slow down and let him in so i have to overtake him again. If I don’t slow down I get all sorts of agro as if it’s my fault he broke the speed limit and then couldnt complete the overtake.

If I’m getting genuinely overtaken on a level then I even slow up to let them past, but using the extra weight to get half way past me then getting mad cos they cant get all the way past me just seems like arrogance.

happens to us all even class 1 being past by heavier truck class 1 on down hill, boils my ■■■■ even when iv just over taking him on straight with ease

Never really had this prob it sometimes happens but not enough to worry about

I treat all drivers the same I even flash at cars but they normaly cut me up

Get a class 1 licence and you won’t feel this way. I feel somewhat annoyed that our 18 tonner, for example, seems taller than many trailers so I can’t use some of the roads they can, yet it’s “smaller”! As for the speed differentials up and down a motorway, a loaded up artic (or any HGV) can roll up to 60MPH, still not be exceeding the speed limit and yet still be comfortably overtaking a lighter one. They are only maintaining progress, just as you are. I don’t have the slightest problem with this sort of thing and it often happens to overtake and be overtaken, when I’m not in economical mode. On a motorway it’s normal if driving near the limit where things like hills can make a big difference to your speed.

It’s in the name, second class drivers…

Just kidding, I think it’s all in your head!

The driver that didn’t thank you for flashing him in has probably spent all day flashing his indicators at people flashing him in, and he just didn’t bother. You are only one of his x number of overtakes of the day. For all you know he might be blowing kisses and throwing Costa Coffee gift cards at all the other drivers he’s been flashed in by, and he’s just run out of them before coming up behind you.

I imagine that people like me who drive faster than average trucks (55+ mph) are used to the speed and they don’t need to sit and stare in their N/S mirror during the last bit of overtaking. A quick look to confirm that you are in fact past and then pull in without noticing any flashing.

If you’ve flashed me in and I haven’t noticed I’m sorry I’ve hurt your feelings! ■■■

Paranoid much?

There are meds you can take for that.

Perhaps a small amount of this happens but mostly your imagination I’d say.

Anyone who looks down on a class 2 driver is a ■■■■■■ if you ask me. So you drive an artic, so what? Not brain surgery is it, any muppet can drive a truck with enough practice.

I dont care really, ill help anybody by flashing them in and if they dont return the favour then thats ok ill not get out my pram about it. I drive a wagon and drag and do notice the difference when i split the vehicle and drive, i do also believe that some small narrow minded class 1 drivers do look down there noses at the lesser rigid mortals and think that thats pathetic.

Same here when splitting a drag, there are some out there who will happily flash me in when I have the trailer on but change completely when I run solo. Spent a while driving a left ■■■■■■ and that was the same, just because the truck is a bit different some think the driver has to be treated differently for some reason.

You must learn your place :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a spell working for a small company that only had one artic and a couple of rigid’s, the regular artic driver always considered himself to be the senior driver and took priority with everything, including fueling, loading, truckwash, tyre pressure check etc. The rest of the drivers just ignored this and let him get on with it, until a brand new truck arrived and the boss announced to everyone “Martin can take that out for the first month, I know it will get looked after and come back undamaged!”

i’ll tell him .

its because all class 2 drivers are amateur’s its not complicated … :smiling_imp:

I flash in alsorts me usually very helpful at flashing the tasty females in wearing short skirts as theyve passed by,just helping out like
I honestly find (not that i give a ■■■■) since ive been driving the battered premium scania drivers dont like flashing me in after iv overtaken them, and vise versa dont acknowledge my flash when they overtake me.But i did also find when i had the 610 people didnt flash me in…so not just u rigid drivers so dont worry about it.

You my friend are Paranoid,

I drove class 2 for 8 years before becoming a class 1 driver.

Now im class 1, alot of other artics never flash me in, drivers always stare as im reversing onto a bay, its just the way the world works.

You work harder on a rigid usually! Remember! A lot have gone straight to Class 1 and only drove a rigid for tests, training on the way there! I reckon this is the reason there are so many numbties driving Class 1 as well as the easterners of course! :grimacing:
IMO the rigid is where you really learn to be a pro driver!

any muppet can drive a truck with enough practice

.

Nah, Kermit would never see over the steering wheel to see where he was going but Fozzy Bear probably could

I drive class one and two,and there is a difference in how you are treated.

I’ve driven mostly artics but have on many occasions driven rigids and never noticed any difference in peoples attitude no matter what I’m driving.

Well not until people see me steer the wrong way when reversing a rigid anyway
