The difference between the UK and Canada/US is that is generally quite hard for any newbie to get a job in the UK, let alone an ethnic minority person who may not know anyone else who actually does the job, add that to how much it costs to actually get the licence in the first place, with no garuntee of work. In the US/Canada its a crap job nobody wants to do so they have no choice but to import as many foreigners in as they can in the case of Canada or offer free training and a job to people in the US, hence why so many poor blacks are now driving trucks there for the likes of the big companies. They agree to stay with the company for a certain length of time and then the company puts them through training sends them out in a truck.
In the UK on the other hand, you could spend several thousand pounds on getting your class one licence, only to them find you cant get a job anywhere. As a new starter you either have to be very lucky or know someone at the right place who can get you in. Not really a set up which is going to attract many recruits from wider society in general, let alone ethnic minorities who have no background in an industry that can be very hard to get in to.
ellies dad:
Stobart has a few blacks here in Ireland. Dunno how they manage cos any I see in cars are all over the road
Are you saying that black people in Ireland are worse drivers than white (car) drivers over there? It’s not possible mate, they can’t be any worse!
i think it should be left up to the employer.
i’ve worked at one firm that wouldn’t employ anyone but white british.
another firm wouldn’t employ english, or protestants. he employed me because we had a mutual friend, no one would talk to me until i’d made an impression.
did it bother me? did it [zb].
