In the US & Canada, there is an estimated 4 million truck drivers, the 5.8% that are woman would total more than 230,000, not that insignificant, like they’re making out.
Because they heard what Dipper Dave might ask them to do in a MSA one night…
Does Fiona of the creamy mess still drive for the green brigade.Ido see quite a lot of women driving buses .There is no physical reason for them not driving a lorry.
I think it’s because unless you grow up with a truck driver for a father, it’s one of those jobs that is being perceived as male and women just never think of it.
If you are girly girl, then it probably won’t suit either - you certainly have to take a fair bit of skitting, but if you can give it back with good humour, then it stops pretty quick, but some women won’t see that it’s just the way blokes talk and it’s not meant badly.
I grew up spending my school holidays out with my Dad in the cab and I’ve been in haulage ever since, doing one job or another. I’d say the drivers are generally a lot less sexist than a lot of white collar middle management that feel the need to defend their territory or status.
I’ve worked with lady drivers for years, even n the car transporters where they are very rare (i’ve known 3 to talk to over 20 years), almost every one has proved themselves and earned the respect of their workmates, you find the odd idiot male driver who’s attitude stinks and you’ll find the odd female driver with the same endearing outlook, thankfully both are rare.
Only one in my depot, she’s a very competent long term driver with a decent outlook, reliable and does the job which is more involved than chauffering well, what she lacks in strength she’ll work out other ways to hold a pipe up while she clamps it, miles better overall than some of the incompetent male drivers we’ve managed to procure, damage free too and not many male drivers can say that.
One good thing about having the ladies about, it helps us curb our language a bit (is it considered sexist still to behave a little old fashioned towards the ladies, i do hope so) and none of us are worse for that.
I think it’s just not seen as a job that most women have an interest in, not to many men have an interest in it these days.

I don’t care if it’s sexist, I still try and mind my language around women, although I only really swear when I go off on one and not in general conversation anyway. But I find myself apologising if the women where I work hear me swear, they find it funny as they will use the same language anyway.
They have more brains than a man
there are some occasions (usualy at cold, dark, deserted locations) requiring brute strength
inserting a reluctant suzy air line
winding down stiff landing legs
pulling stuck pin handle
pump truck manoeuvring one ton pallets on a slope
but if geriatric male drivers manage it, I’m sure women can do it

With the waist size of the average driver it’s hardly a job that demands olympic levels of fitness (Some exceptions of course)

As with most things, brains are more important than brawn!
Lucky i’m a big lad…
Cos they don’t mind working at Aldi for more money, cos they know how to shower, and they don’t need to make up for an inferiority complex about the size of their ■■■■■
Up here in Lappland at least 30percent of drivers of heavy machinery and trucks in the transport and mining industry ar women. As there is less '‘status\discrimination\machismo’'attached to working with ‘‘large\heavy equipment’’,its more a question of ‘‘if you can do the job, good luck to you’’.

when the medical research teams are buying braind for dissection and research they always have to pay more for womens brains on the basis that the male brain has seen some previous use.
Most women are probably put off being truck drivers because they know that when they get a job and roll up for their first day at the yard all the male drivers will run over like dogs in heat and be hanging around them in an ultra-embarrassing showing akin to ■■■■■ teenagers at a beach when they spot a co-ed in a bikini!
