i dont come on here much anymore for quite a few reasons but when i do i see alot of topics from drivers moaning the general public dont appriciate em well i been driving trucks for nearly 18 years and in that time nothings changed apart from, i couldnt care less what the public think of me or the truck i drive.when i started driving i would here guys moaning about joe public and i thought i gotta stand up for the haulage industry and make joe public realise how important we are but ya know what after a few years i realised the fta rha and other unions didnt care about our image and truck magazines only preached to the converted.so over the years ive just learnt to ignore joe public and their anti truck rantings and ive become more relaxed due to the fact that no matter what anyone says we will always be a pain in the arse to joe public, theyll never care that you or i delivered their food their cars their bricks for their big fancy houses etc we,ll always be in the way on the motorway which i quite enjoy now and i very rarley pull into the middle lane to let a line of cars on the motorway either now.ive got mates that were driving in the 70,s and 80.s and they say the exact same thing.so young drivers out there do yourself a favour dont try to change the views of joe public its pointless just keep your head down and plod on
HiyaâŚi think its what ever you do is wrongâŚlike the weight restriction near BathâŚWE DONâT WANT TRUCKS,
it dose get you downâŚi moved house years ago, i was driving a 4 wheeler Daf at the time, my boss just said
iâll leave you enpty for the weekend to move house, Half way through unloading up turns PLOD.
whats going on, he muttered, i said removals why, he told me someone had reported the LORRY parked in
the avenue. i said look its a van full of furniture. thats a furniture van, when its enpty itâll move away.
that was a good start to the newish house.
Now when its truck fest how many people go to thatâ â ? and iâll lay money down theyâre not all lorry drivers
going to that, the same as when the commercial show was at earl,s court you couldânt move for people.
now you go to Canada or the USA youâll see trucks parked in posh driveways out side big houses, the cafes say
cars also welcomeâŚi think thats just a couple of things to âŚss you off with this country.
John
Iâm exactly same, couldnât care less what the public think. Do my job, take the money and thatâs that.
People moan about traffic wardens road workers builders car mechanics stroppy flt drivers spotty surly youths working in McDonalds.
As ling as you dint mind doing a job just go with it and collect your wages every week.
Mind you i do wonder about some drivers they belive driving is up there with brain surgery and finding a cure for cancer and should be treated as a returning war hero every time they get to a deluvery.
I couldnât care what people think of me or the industry but at the same time I donât think anyone wants to be hated.
Iâm not trying to change the industry but if I have an altercation with Joe public I try and leave them thinking âheâs quite a switched on blokeâ and just maybe their view of truck drivers might have changed after they had met me, I could easily throw a few â â â â â and â â â â â at them but whatâs the point.
Also I think that problems start when as a truck driver you already have your barriers up thinking that everyone is against you when really they are not.
Not everyone hates us.
I think thatâs it, weâre not bothered about being loved but no one wants to be loathed just for what job theyâre doing.
I move over to let a line of cars on the motorway primarily so they donât crash in to me or cause be to lose speed, which will take 5 miles to put back on & secondarily to help them out.
I think thatâs a bit of an irrational stance though, car drivers versus truck drivers as we all drive cars as well, it could be a line of truck drivers in cars on their way to workâŚ
Thereâs â â â â â âs & then thereâs decent folk, simples.
I donât mind being hated. In fact, if someone hates me just for what I do then Iâm glad my presence invokes such hatred and theyâll probably die before me of stress.
Then Iâll be the one laughing.
Iâve never come across anyone hating trucks or truckers, not to my face anyway, so Iâve never had a problem. Ive had far more trouble from people in cars when im out on the bike though. Never felt the need to be loved for doing my job either.

Why should they, itâs your job for [zb] sake.
Brilliant, you complain that people donât like lorry drivers then tell us about your continuing contribution to why they should treat us with contempt

Unfortunately itâs not just when theyâre delivering, some lorry drivers seem to believe that they are kings of the road and everyone should make way for them.

Generally I havenât come across much hatred either, well not because I drive lorries anyway
Iâm afraid some lorry drivers are so far up their own arses they believe theyâre special and should be treated accordingly regardless of how they treat other road users
If youâre driving a large vehicle itâs inevitable that you will sometimes get in peoples way, itâs also inevitable that some people will resent your getting in their way, that doesnât mean the world hates us.
If anyone really wants to know why we as drivers donât have the greatest reputation in the world just read some of the comments in these forums, two of which are in the opening post in this thread, 1) I enjoy getting in peoples way 2) I wonât move over to allow car drivers onto a motorway
If you want more respect try earning it by driving like considerate drivers who know what youâre doing, as long as you show no consideration on the roads and drive like bloody amateurs who think they own the roads you wonât get respect or consideration from other road users.
im not obliged to pull out the law states a slip road is a give way to traffic from the right ie i dont have to pull out its down to the car driver to either slow down or speed up im just adhering to traffic law.i know its my job thats the point i obviously didnt make my point clear enough as i couldnt care less but theres drivers out there that think they should be thanked by joe public for every delivery that they do
i think enjoying being in peoples way was a bad choice of words what i meant was i dont worry about it anymore ive got every right to over take a slower moving truck why should i feel guilty for doing so,ie slowing car drivers down last time i looked a motorway had 3 lanes
To paraphrase that Aussie fella in that film,
Hate 'em back,it works for me!
Thing is if you drive like your the king of the road with little courtesy to other road users, look like a slob and speak with a potty mouth like an uneducated moron, you arenât going to get respect or admiration off anybody.
First impressions are everything and too many drivers let us all down. So if anybody is concerned about what people think of us, make sure your not part of the problem.

90% of what he said but with far more anger and hostility toward the â â â â wit attitude of the OP and others. Grow the â â â â up. What goes around comes around. If you drive like a â â â â people will think youâre a â â â â and treat you like a â â â â â Itâs not rocket science
Iâve got flowery curtains in my cab â â ?
