They could make the same or more ££ working the pub or waiting table or doing whatever easier/better paying job (incl. tax free tips and gifts from random simps) but they chose the driving career…why? Do they enjoy the immense never ending attention at work and every place they go to deliver/collect? Every company nowadays seems to have one and a bunch of up to 65 year olds drooling over them. There’s one at our place 2 drivers nearly went into a fight (and still don’t talk to each other months later) over who was going to be the ‘‘trainer’’ accompanying her during her 1st week on class 1.
Nevermind the preferential treatment they get at work instantly getting a full time contract and day shift and whichever days/runs/start times they desire. Can’t send them out alone at night if they say ‘‘I don’t feel safe’’ understandably. It’s pathetic on the part of TM/planners and that’s not sexist at all apparently when it’s benefiting someone because of their gender/looks but I will be labelled sexist for pointing it out.
It’s one thing being ‘‘nice’’ to someone because they’re young and inexperienced at least initially until they settle in but when it’s a long term trend it’s so blatantly obvious that this goes beyond just common courtesy.
We got 4 out of 120 drivers and they do the same as the rest of us. Modern trucks don’t need brawn its common sense is more important than muscles. So does that mean if you a woman you haven’t got any?
Think your brain is living in the 70s, l wouldn’t be complaining if I had a load of women fighting over me at work
One of my female relatives did the job for more years than i have, never asked for or received special treatment, stripped out more than her fair share of tilts, could rope and sheet with the best of them handle specialist loads you name it, no proper gearbox caused her trouble nor lack of power steering.
Won the genuine respect of her colleagues and employers wherever she worked by her own graft and competence, she always knew some idiots would be watching hoping to see her drop a clanger and they always went home disappointed.
If anything she was a good influence where she worked because she was respected for doing the full job in what was previously a mans world without complaint or favour, if her being there made a few lads curb their swearing in her presence what would be wrong with that.
Clever woman indeed, she didn’t need to drive a truck to make a living, but she wanted to do it when still a very young woman took her class 1 test (one of the first women to pass) and made a decent fist of it for over 40 years, she’d last about 5 minutes in a currrent logistics giant, she’d not put up with the petty ■■■■■■■■ that goes on…light goes out she gets the tools out and starts fixing the thing, cab over fits new filters, once some twerp behind the desk said she wasn’t allowed to fit a new side light bulb that would be it, clear the decks for incoming wrath
I’ve worked with females on both car transporters and tankers, again no special treatment wanted or given, none of them were there for decorative or box ticking reasons but mostly were attractive women in their own right, you see quite a few women drivers on artic bulk tippers, personally i’m glad to see women doing well in this industry.
Not sure i’ve ever seen the sort of favouritism you speak of, the women truck drivers i’ve known and worked with would have been annoyed had they been singled out like that.
As for half wits arguing over who’s going to be her ‘guide’, there’s no fool like an old fool, you know what she really thinks about such foolishness don’t you.

In the interest of a balanced view: Why attractive young men become truck drivers? l
It’s not balanced view unless you want to imply that the vast majority (90%+) of existing male drivers are homosensual then your comparison would make sense
We’ve only got one woman driver at our depot at the moment. She does pallet distribution on night shifts and she’s a ■■■■ sight better at it than many of the blokes who’ve come through the place.
She gets exactly the same runs and workload as anyone else and she’s quick at doing the job, doesn’t crash the trucks and finds her way without getting lost, which is about all anyone can ask.

So would you prefer young attractive women not to be in this industry?

Back in the days of yore, when I was still young and attractive, I can promise you two things were the case:
I wasn’t a “woman driver” or “lady trucker” or any of that crap. I left my gender at the gate.
If any kind of favouritism took place, it was to the detriment of the female driver, simply because the gaffers wanted to avoid being accused of favouring me. I always had the ■■■■ truck on the ■■■■ jobs, at least to start with.
Why did I do it? I liked big stuff. I still like big stuff. And it paid more than driving fork trucks, which is what I was doing before, or travelling around doing farm work which is what I was doing before that.

I’m not sure if your Dozy, naive as hell or just on a wind up.
In our yard we have about 8 woman trampers. They just do the same jobs as us. We just sit together at truckstops for a chat. Maybe it’s your view that they get favoured.
Up here 30 to 40% of the drivers are female, especially in the mining industry driving tippers, wheel loaders, dumptrucks up to 500ton,heavy haulage etc. They do the same work for the same pay. They drive snow ploughs in the winter.
One looks like a Ukranian shot putter, and moans a lot about her runs, which are just as long and bad as any other.
We had another one, but she got sacked for wrecking a brand new trailer on a wall when 3 times over the limit.
Another, who has left, was a proper worker, and had driven lorries for nearly 30 years in several western countries. She was a really interesting character and we got along really well.
None of them ever seemed to be favoured, and I never saw any men even close to fighting for their attention. We all just quietly got on with our long runs.
I did once see what looked like a dolled up 18 year old instagram queen shunting on a tug, and couldn’t reverse for her life. It looked all wrong. Only saw her there once. Probably went back in the office after that, or realised she could make more money in one onlyfans video than a whole month of shunting.

Don’t forget the non-binary
Or the attractive old women
Speaking of…
I was randomly invited for a medical and I went today.
The lady said I have to ask you some questions, not written by me but by the governing body…ok I said, fire away.
She says…‘Question 1.’
‘What gender are you?’’
■■■■ seriously ■■
I’m 6’ 1’, I’m 16 stone, with a shaven head, and a bit of a beard going on ffs.
I said ‘Take a guess’
She says…'I have to hear it from you.
