Why aren't lorries used to transport people?

came up last night after a few beers

Im sure theres a logical reason as to why a trailer can’t be fitted out like a bus and pulled by a tractor.

They are called Bendy Buses

They do in Africa,India and South America.
The Indians sit on top of trains if the carriage is full.

And in an artic setup, how would they pay their fares?

Not many folk want strapping down in neat rows on pallets.

And most important how would the driver be able to chat up the totty?

we had this all thought out.

A pre paid oyster card like in london you scan on the door for it to open and scan it again when getting off to calculate how much is taken off the card.

They are.

Have you never been to Calais?

Ask those 1500 chickens on the M62 last week… ooopss you can’t…

I thought that ‘passengers’ usually rode on the trailer axles anyway, or have they gone up market now and travel inside?

Pete.

I believe you are not allowed passengers in any towed vehicle/trailer. The reason bendy buses get away with it is because the engine is mounted at the rear so is not classed as a trailer.

You mean something like this?

Remember reading about something like that I think in outback Australia or Africa.

Quick google bought up the above link.

Do you mean something like this?

Sadly it didn’t really work very well, I had it all planned mixed freight and passengers to maximise profits in rural areas.
But passengers seemed to want windows and steps, the council asked about access for disabled passengers, so I showed them the tail lift, they were impressed  but were less impressed by my idea of using ratchet straps and load bars to secure the passengers. :frowning:
I gave up after a week after my first wheelchair passenger forgot to put the brake on when he was on the tail lift and was last seen traveling backwards at 40mph down Grapes hill in Norwich. :open_mouth:

Plenty In Havana, Cuba

Go to Flickr and type in camel bus, Havana. Tons of pictures.

In the early days of road haulage some owners had a bus body that could be mounted on a flat truck that was used for weekend outings. They werent that successful owing to the high cente of gravity.

They should be … In particular for transporting Islamists and unsavoury immigrants, they should be shrink wrapped to pallets, put into containers and shipped back to the hell hole they originate from.

This is the local bus service in Cuba. As the rep said " First for the bull, then for the people.

In Africa they have conductors, even have a code/way of telling the driver when to stop for pax to alight.

Room on top for one more.
Next stop Calais!
