Why are there so many lunatic, suicidal truckers on the road?

I guessed there would be a simple explanation for this.

… The middle road is the way. :sunglasses:

:stuck_out_tongue: That kind of lane-hogging sometimes causes problems mate, cos we’re really supposed to drive on the left.  :grimacing:

ok, maybe left of centre then…

on Saturday (14th Aug 2010) at 2.30 PM I was traveling from Glenrothes to Dundee along the A92. On the way I encountered an idiot in a Artic (with trailer) He was traveling on a national speed limit road (40mph for Artics) at 60mph. this idiot was riding on my bumper so close that I could only see his number plate in my rear view mirror and he was so close to me that when the old couple in the car in front slowed down I slowed down what did he do■■? swerve onto the other (oncoming) lane as he was so close that he couldn’t see my lights just missing me.

I couldn’t either overtake the couple as the road is quite windy with lots of blind summits. there is a lay-by 5 miles away from Dundee but I wasn’t any where near it.

so in all I couldn’t (1) slow down & let him past. (2) overtake the car in front. (3) can’t speed up there is a law I break it I lose my job.

what did happen?? when he got the chance he overtook both cars.

he arrived at the quayside in Dundee at the same time as me.

If the driver of the said truck is reading this, thanks for getting so close I now have your REG. As I WILL be phoning your company tomorrow morning and think yourself lucky. If my wife had the police non-emergency number she would of called them.

P.S. everytime I say “I” what that should say is My WIFE, 3 KIDS (under 6) & I. was in the car but you were that close you would of seen my 5 year old looking out the back window at you afraid you were going to hit us.

What does everyone think, a prime example of “why are there so many lunatic, suicidal truckers on the road”

Thanks for the report.

Yep, there are some nutters about, I don’t think it’s that widespread though. He’ll lose his licence soon enough by the sound of it.

What a numpty that truck driver was. I am curious though, why did you not slow down as soon as he got close to you? I don’t mean brake, I mean take your foot off the gas. You would have been far safer if you slowed down as soon as the truck caught up with you, The best thing you can do when there is a dangerous driver around you is to start driving defensively.

Sorry, Waddy. I must have been blinded by 3 pages of BS before I posted… My mistake.

to set things straight i have taken this from the highway code . so mr car driver remember this next time someone want to pass …

168
Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.

and if you want to revise any more of the highway code about overtaking follow the link

direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTr … /DG_070314

oh and you may want to take note of this one also

169
Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow-moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass.

Copied from above web page :
Speed - You’ll be surprised

As a driver you can choose the severity of the crash you may have and therefore your level of injury you cause. How? By choosing the speed at which you travel.

Most of us adopt the same mentality when it comes to driving - more speed = more time saved. This is simply not true. The sense that we have to travel faster to make up time is overstated. A 10 minute journey made at 60mph saves you, incredibly, just over 1½ minutes compared to a journey at 50mph… and what would you do with that “saved” time?

We all know that stopping distances increase dramatically with driving speed. But by doubling your speed, you significantly more than double your breaking distance. By keeping your speed lower and adapting it to the conditions on our county roads, hazards such as large vehicles, cyclists, walkers and wildlife should be safely negotiated.

Is that minute and a half worth ■■?

I don’t know about you, but I have to work more than 10 minutes a day multiply that by the 60 times I can drive 10 minutes it could cost me an hour and a half a day, over 7 hours a week, nearly 30 hours a month and around 360 hours a year, that is 18 days, so yes that minute and a half will make a difference.
These figures are as accurate and useless as yours :unamused:

Those numbers are not mine. I wrote "copied from above web page "
I also work more than ten minutes a day but I am having that pleasure to be paid by hour so no need to rush  Even if I would not get paid by hour I would try to keep to the speed limits (trying not to make other peoples live hell ) as my license is my ticket to do job that I love

After 10 years of tank transporting in the army In Kosovo, Iraq & other non- tourist destinations I tried the defensive driving thing, (try to slow down by coming off the gas a few times, yadda yadda yadda) all it done was get him closer next time.

I did phone his company yesterday, I got a call today from his office, after a check on the sat tracker (speed with tracker fitted, clever) it showed that he was speeding, I got told that he has been given a written warning also got a call from the driver to say soz.

sorry how could he get closer than riding on your bumper? Defensive driving is the only answer to this sort of situation, if you go slower you increase the distance in time that he is away from you so it makes it safer, if you go faster, it increases the distance in feet and inches, same result…
As for tank transporting, well tailgaters wouldn’t have affected you, so what defensive driving that is relative to this post would you be talking about■■?

They didn’t and he didn’t. Yes you phoned his company, but the sound you interpreted as them checking the tracker was really the bored clerk playing solitaire whilst telling you want he thought you wanted to hear. The driver calling to apologise was probably the same clerk pretending to be him, again to placate you. FFS man, why didn’t you tell your mummy too? You said you later saw him, well why didn’t you tackle him? You know, just pretend you’re a real man for once and face him instead of hiding behind a keyboard or a phone. I never thought that they would tolerate sneaks in the Tank Transporting lot (they didn’t when I drove them) but I guess you play station generation children are a different breed.

Of course, it could all be a wind up

It’s none of your business whether he’s breaking the law or not. You are not the police so let them worry about that instead of trying to illegally police the situation yourself.

RobK, you sir are a 100% bonified absolute FRICKING moron!!! :imp: :open_mouth:

You obviously dont care whether you break the laws or not and i`ll tell you something…I SURE AS HELL HOPE THAT I DONT MEET YOU ON THE ROADS! I love my wife and kids and would want to come home to them everynight, without being killed! So do us all a favour and hand in your license!

If the OP wants to drive 50mph on a (presumably) 50mph road, then let him! and if the impatient tw*t behind him wants to BREAK THE SPEED LIMIT TO OVERTAKE HIM, Just so he doesnt miss his weekly prostitue appointment, then hes an even bigger nobhead than you are.

Ive just passed my class 2 and when i get into work, ill aim to be the safest amongst! But it sure has hell doesnt mean that im going to lie on my back for some bullying [zb] that decides hell live on my back doors to try and make me go any faster!
ive always had a respect for HGVs but even more-so now that i can legally drive one and people who blatantly abuse their licenses just to get the job done quicker so they can get home for pie and ■■■■■…ALL NEED TO BE SHOT! :open_mouth:
Like i said, im a new driver to the game and have had nowhere near the experience most of you have, but i sure know how to drive safe and legal. It makes me think that people like Robk, are ex-boy racers and only drive HGV to see what its like to rag the ■■■■ out of a 44tonne wagon, just like they do with their little saxo VTRs back home!

It makes me laugh when im in the car and i see impatient drivers, theyll over take you whilst breaking the sound barrier only to be held up 600yrds down the road by traffic lights or another “law abiding citizen”.

To everyone that 99.9% agree`d with rob too, do us all a favour and immigrate to poland or lithuainia where your “driving skills” are much more appreciated!
