Had a little chuckle to myself today. Did some work for a chap about three years ago. He was just setting up an agency.
He has moved into a place I pass from time to time. He has Rangey with private plate and a Cayenne with private plate.
Good on him for earning it and having the balls to do it. Shame it’s built on low paid truckers
Its not good for you going around with them thoughts in your head. They’ll eat away at you and consume you. So to answer your question i think you are the mug for worrying about what other people are doing instead of yourself. After all, its not like you’ve unveiled some big exploitation going on due to your undercover surveilance. All you seem to have sussed is a fella who has done well for himself !!

. Running an agency is hard work and no one is compelled to use them. The vehicles in his drive could just be leased and not necessarily a true measure of his success. His company accounts are.

You twonk. Where did I say it bothered me. I said good luck to him. I don’t work for him and wouldn’t work for slave rates.
Twonk ?
You didn’t say it bothered you. But i know it does. I know this because [1] You posted it. [2] You obviously don’t think he’s a mug, so its a leading question. You want us to to agree that Mugs have made this possible for him. [3] You said…“shame its built on low paid truckers”.
Are you aware that most employers make money off you? They don’t employ you for fun or philanthropist reasons, they just want to make money off you. It really is that simple. If you cost them money you won’t have a job. Where these “low paid truckers” forced there by Albanian gangsters, or maybe blackmailed into working for them in someway ? Why didn’t the low paid truckers go for higher paid jobs?
You really wanted me to say all his drivers are mugs, but i’m not going to say that or agree.

Tramping, and loving it. And getting paid for it on top… Life could not get better unless my employer provided my accommodation…
Hang on…
You just enjoy life whilst its good. And lets hope you never need to buy a digital tacho paper roll, or then you’ll find out where you’re going wrong in life !!

Oh, you’re such a lyricist Mike, you should write pop tunes for Britters.
Sorry ! but i think Mike C is spot on, i can se where the op is coming from, but i have been ripped off all of my life, along with all the other mugs, thats transport i suppose, and i did have a choice to stay or leave as we all do, but someone starts a business and does quite well, and some people look down on that ( not saying you did ) Agencies in general sem to do that and personally i have never ever used one, but a lot of people do for different reasons and i dont blame them, some are good and pay a decent hourly rate, some pay a ■■■■ rate, and others promise to pay a good rate but dont, so the mugs are the drivers i suppose for not standing their ground. Now i am retired i may have to join an agency for some part time work, but i wont work for less than i am worth, and with my experience i am worth a lot more than others who work for a lot less.

Hard work running an agency and margins are not that high . The vehicles may be leased and not necessary an indication of his wealth . Dont think he has any control over how much truckers are paid - in any event no one is compelled to use his services .

I work for a guy who runs a small agency. He has a Maserati but then again you’ll also find him in a truck 4-5 nights a week and he pays a good wage. Not been on less than £10/hr with him yet and he pays straight through. Last night he gave me some clothing for work, polo shirts, fleeces, hi-viz.
One guy who is where I am as a self employed driver has a 64 plate Merc AMG.
I own two houses, I just drive trucks.
You don’t need to be screwing people over to have these things, you just have to be smart with what you do with your money. One thing not considered is that the Rangy and the Cayenne may be on credit. If you don’t drink, don’t smoke and have little debt you can easily afford to buy them.
Two things you’ve not taken into account is that he has to pay drivers the following week for the work they do but it could be 3 months before he sees the money. The second thing is that he actually has to see the money. A friend of mine who ran an agency had 20 workers in at a factory full time. He went under with debts of over £50k because the factory didn’t pay. Doesn’t take long to rack up that amount of debt when you’re paying out £4,000 a week in wages and a customer doesn’t pay their invoice.
You can potentially make as much as he does but are you willing to take on the level of risk? It always makes me laugh when I see comments from people like you. You seem completely oblivious to the risk that people who do what he did take and completely unaware that for every one that is successful, 10 people doing the same have probably gone to the wall. Sadly in this country there are too many who think like you.

Too right Conor!
I work for Pertemps on w/ends & I’m paid on par with core Drivers, even the self employed drivers are paid weekly on invoice, yes the manager runs around in a Audi A3 but he runs 6 sites, I can’t see a problem with any business that keeps people in work making a profit,

Nowhere did I mention I was jealous. I said good on him if you read it , for having the balls to do it. I have been self employed since 1999. Had some good patches and some bad. I won’t work for less than I think is worth it. I certainly wouldn’t entertain the £6.85 and £7 being banded about. I fully understand cash flow problems.
One business I currently have is retail and cash up front is better. One business I used to have involved 60 day credit to customers and zero credit from suppliers. Too stressful.
I agree cars could be leased or not paid for.
I guess you all love agencies and the modern employment methods and are happy that we no longer have employers.
