So I’m on my way to Knottingley to load a glass and come of the M1 n/b at junction 42 the M1/M62 junction I get to the end of the exit slip road and am behind a Langdons truck we both have to stop at the lights and both have our right hand indicators on as we are going to join the M62 e/b we stay in the left lane with our indicators on and have to stop again at the lights behind an Eddie Stobart truck.
The lights go to green and we set off as another artic approaches in the right hand lane having come off the M62. Both the Stobart and Langdons truck get through the lights but I and the other truck in the right hand lane have to stop, ive had my right hand indicator on ever since I’ve come up the exit slip road on the M1. The lights go to green and as I’m empty start pulling away from the artic in the right hand lane, I then get a long blast of his horn ringing in my ears as he was wanting to come across my lane and join the M1.
I’m like WTF is your problem? If you were wanting to join the M1 then why weren’t you attempting to get into the left hand lane as soon as you left the lights at the top of the exit slip road? Was he hoping to cut across me and join the M1 as I’m sure he must have seen my intentions of carrying on around the roundabout due to my o/s indicator flashing on/off for almost a minuite
I’d like to know if anyone thinks I was in the wrong as to me I did everything right.
He was in the wrong. He came hooning around the roundabout too quickly to get himself in the correct lane and hoped to blag it by pushing in front of a heavy truck setting off from the lights and instead of manning up and doing another lap of the roundabout and this time choosing the correct lane he vented his frustration at you.
There was a video posted here a month or so ago of the same junction with a Stobbies doing the same as you, only difference being the nob in lane two ran into the Stobbies.
The roundabout isn’t particularly well marked tbf, but rocket science it ain’t!
A s the Moaster says your right, he’s wrong and for reason I don’t understand it seems to be a common fault at that junction, to the extent that if I’m turning right I use the right hand lane. This can lead to game of chicken when you do turn off but there is two lanes and more time to sort it out.
You shouldn’t be on the road
A very common occurrence at that junction, but he as a professional driver should have been in the same lane as you if he was heading north.
Do what I do in future. Set off and match his speed and force him to do a complete circuit of the roundabout again. Then in future he might get into the correct lane if he wants to head north.
Bell end.
Ken.

If I’ve read it right you’re both turning right on a roundabout so you should both be in the right hand lane and only change to the left lane ‘when you exit’ the roundabout. In which case he would have been behind you in the right lane and exited the roundabout by changing to the left lane before you.It all goes obviously pear shaped when anyone tries to use the left lane to turn right. In which case everyone then has to use the left lane and using the right lane becomes a dangerous pointless exercise.

How is he in the wrong lane assuming he was turning right. IE M62 westbound to M1 Northbound.
Nothing to see here although it’s a very big roundabout.
you should really have been in the RIGHT HAND LANE!
anything after twelve o clock is a right turn, requiring a right hand indicator as straight on requires NO indicator.
jobs dumbed down enough, just because it’s huge doesn’t mean I’ll follow the left hand lane Around to the right because I can, as some Wayne Kerr WILL ALWAYS RACE YOU AND TURN LEFT TO EXIT, left or straight on.
It’s been dumbed down and F1 Ferrari drivers with class one licences are now clogging the country up in their 56 mph dream machines. Steve, you’re in the wrong!

You have no knowledge of that junction. I can understand your mistake but rather than as usual jumping in with both feet why don’t you do a little of your beloved research and check google earth or whatever else is floating your boat right now and you will see CLEARLY marked both on the road and on approach to the junction that BOTH lanes are to be used for the M62 Eastbound (which is exactly what Steve was doing).
Edit to add; my response to you was uneccessarily harsh there CF. you got the backlash of my imprisonment in Stalag Luft Iceland Swindon (still here). Of course if you aren’t familiar with that junction you could be mistaken for thinking that you should be in the right hand lane to turn right and I can understand your point. However as I said and I’m sure someone will post a pic, you are entitled to use either lane at that point to turn right.
Here you go, clearly both lanes marked to turn right onto M62E, if you want to go straight on you should be in the left lane.
(Not a great pic, but street view doesn’t seem to like the right hand lanes either, but the markings you can just see on the road in the distance also say for turning right)
HE was at fault, NOT you!
The designers of said junction are wrong. The poor road layout, combined with a bad phasing of lights leads to traffic from the left wanting to turn right and vice versa. You were both in the right by virtue of poor road design as all the lanes are pretty much marked up for every direction.
I agree it is a bad junction, but why on earth would anyone wanting to turn left or go straight on be in the right hand lane?
We all screw up from time to time, even CF!
If it was me, I wouldn’t have blasted my horn, I’d have taken my punishment and done the lap of shame!
But I’d have also tried my best to be in the left lane in the first place, I hate having to worry about traffic on my n/s on roundabouts…
Agreed

Traffic turning right from the M1 Norf to M62 East can use the left lane while traffic turning right from the M62 West to M1 Norf is using the right lane etc etc.Together with drivers who are happy to go along with the idea rather than use accepted, proven, normal, roundabout protocol, regardless of what the zb wit road planners say. What could possibly go wrong.

As it stands by that logic they’d be better off marking the right hand lane out of existence.Because with the idea of left lane turn right it’s just a liability to anyone who’s in it.While given normal protocol there generally wouldn’t be anyone in the left lane when you change lanes to exit the roundabout because anyone in it before that point would have filtered off at the previous exit before you.

He had come onto the roundabout from the M62 w/b wanting to get onto the M1 n/b

That’s how it read.In which case normal protocol is use the right hand lane and change to the left lane just before the exit. While anyone turning right from the M1 to M62 East does the same in which case no chance of any conflict.

Eh?
You follow the road marking as the signs/road marking instruct, so if the left lane goes right, then that’s the one I prefer to be in!
CF’s lack of understanding of how roundabouts work aside, I mean ■■■■ that bloke has no clue.
Even allowing for Tnuks mantra of turning threads against the OP I have to concede that regardless of poor design, out of synch light phases that leads to traffic battling for the same road space etc. In this instance by virtue of another road user resorting to horn use you are on the highground.
I mean ■■■■■■ lads if 2 pro drivers well aware of each others limitations and contraceptions can’t negotiate a hazard or tricky junction together it’s time to give up.
