Knew it wouldn’t be long before the jealous brigade popped up. As I said above, all you can offer is insults and excuses. None of you will demand a payrise because you all believe your boss when he tells you that you are lucky to have a job. For a job with a very macho image there seem to be a lot of whimps when it comes to improving things.
I wont rub it in any longer but when some know it all posts that these earnings are impossible then just direct them to this post and the one from Left hand down. The only people preventing drivers from earning these rates are drivers, not their bosses, not the economy, just drivers.
We get a pay rise every year we also get Gas, Bedding and cleaning stuff paid for. I do 40 ish hours for good money but don’t go on and on and on about it, if your so cocky prove it or shut up. Personally I think your just a wind up merchant.
Does the “wind up merchant” apply to me as well because I posted a month’s earnings to silence some of the nay-sayers in this thread?
If I recall correctly you are not far away from me and deliver office furniture in a wag and drag (?) so I would be expecting very good money for doing that work too as I doubt they’ll have people queueing up to do it.
No because you had the balls to put your earnings up and try and shut him up
He wasn’t trying to shut me up you idiot, he was trying to prove me right.
Truckbling:
Gone a little quiet here.
To add, just done £1353.90 for a weeks work, Bank holidays do help sometimes. But then again I’m just a Billy big ■■■■■■■■ who knows [zb] all.
previous post on this thread on 26th March
You resurrect the thread on 19th April…why■■?
Has it taken you that long to get a good week in?

No it hasn’t actually. I was pointing out the obvious that now someone has proven high earnings are possible that the thread has gone rather quiet or are you too stupid to have sussed that out for yourself?
Sorry, you clearly are or you wouldn’t have made the post.
I’m not saying a grand a week can’t be earned driving wagons, I was on £25 an hour at weekends in 06 and 07 just doing days. then it went down to £20, then £17 and now its £13-£14 so I don’t bother working weekends anymore. In fact I don’t drive at all now the building has picked up and I can make better money there.
Can anybody post an advert for employment or self employed/ltd showing anywhere near the rates claimed in this thread? Or are these dead man’s shoes jobs?
Nobody advertises the rates mate, its up to yourself to do the homework and legwork along with timeserving to find where the best rates are along with the jobs that will provide the hours to make such earnings.
Clearly you need to be self employed, charge a decent rate and get either the agency or hirer to pay those rates. Its a fine balance but can be achieved. I know of 3 others on this forum that make the earnings stated but I know they wont tell you where they work or how they do it because that would just be silly. 1000 other drivers would jump straight in and try to undercut us all in order to get the work.

“I was pointing out the obvious that now someone has proven high earnings are possible that the thread has gone rather quiet”
It’s taken you 24 days to work that one out and you accuse me of being stupid
Perhaps others realised that the thread had run its course and you are under the misaprehension that everyone is interested in your earnings.
Why do you think everyone else is stupid and resort to personal attacks, it does not help the believability of your posts, just makes you seem like an opinionated ■■■■■■■■■

Idiot here… at least he did it.

My thoughts entirely.
Somebody was obviously eager to boast to everybody about how much he has just earned. Then wonders why people don’t respond well.
The thread had finished, lefthanddown’s post was enough to prove the point about earning potential to everybody. I’m sure truckbling will now take great pleasure in posting a screenshot of his own bank statement on Thursday… I don’t doubt the guys earnings but jesus pal pipe down your coming across as a right willy waver.
I love this guy. In with his grand a week earnings and then all other drivers who don’t pick up that are (quote) “thick [zb]”.
That might be why people are on your back, fella. Just a thought.
I have never been a fan of agencies, as they are one of the main reasons that most drivers are on crap wages in this industry, being parasitic middle men
However it looks like a couple of you have used them as a kind of means to an end, or an initiative led gateway to directly paid good wages.
I’ve always had a kind of respect for anybody that has managed to beat the system in this country, a system that strives to keep people like us down and in our place, a place engineered by the establishment.
I’m maybe getting a bit deep politically now so I will shut up
, but all I wanted to say was good on you guys, and if a few are jealous on here well tough ■■■■.

Hey Rob, thanks for your closing words!
Believe me pal, I’m no fan of agencies either! I hate the [zb]s! BUT, once you’re clued up on the same old same old nonstop bull ■■■■ that they spout, it’s not too difficult to have them eating out of your palms and work them to your advantage. I still do some sub-contracting to an agency which pays me what I want, which is a rarity these days especially with all the newbies and foreigners happy to work for peanuts, but I prefer to cut them out altogether where possible.
I couldn’t agree with you more about “the system” and “the Establishment” in this country - what you said there is spot on. It’s especially hard to break out of it too if you’re Mr Average with a family, kids, all the latest gadgets and luxuries as the uncertainty of whether you’ll have any work for a given week is too much to risk. There are some nice rewards on offer though for those prepared to take the risk and put in the effort and legwork but it’s an uphill battle frought with challenges for the inexperienced and unwary.
I don’t know much about being self employed but how much tax and national insurance will have to be paid at the end of the tax year ? I’m guessing quite a bit.

In the last tax year my earnings were worked out like this (rough figures)
Invoiced amounts - £46’000.00 (Including VAT) (£38’333 NET)
VAT Paid to HMRC - £4’600.00
£9,440 Salary - No Tax, NI @ 12%
£7’000 in expenses payments
Which leaves £24’960 as “Profit” which is taxed at 20% (Corporation Tax)
£20’800 left in the kitty which is classed as a “Dividend” payable to the director tax free.
So on a £46’000 annual turnover which is very easy to do, as pointed out by LHD and Truckbling, you pay £1011 in NI, £4160 in Corporation Tax and £4600 in VAT and in your bank account you have been paid £36’228.57 - Based on a NET figure of £38’333. Just over £2000 off the NET figure.
Just by being enrolled on the flat rate scheme for VAT will cover both your VAT and corporation tax liabilities at no extra cost to you.
This is just a quick example I have slapped together and may not be 100% accurate, but it shows the picture.

Looks about right to me
Phew… Not bad for a quick post
Anyways, to carry on, comparing the PAYE vs LTD Contractor route, I did an online calculation based on 38’333 and here are the results.
Gross Pay £38,333.00
Tax free Allowances £9,440.00
Total taxable £28,893.00
xTax due £5,778.60
National Insurance £3,670.20
Total Deductions £9,448.80
Net Wage £28,884.20
Employers NI £4,227.91
Not bad compared to the £36’288 that Mr LTD CO has in his bank! But, as everyone keeps reminding me, You get a few weeks holiday pay - not sure what that is worth but I am sure as hell nowhere near the £7403.80 that Mr LTD Co has in his account.
PLUS - I did an equal calculation there, but typically a LTD Contractor and PAYE Employee would not be on the same rate of pay.
But the national insurance would still be 0 if done correctly so the online calculator which is why a good accountant is vital to make it work
So as the original op (can’t remember his name this threads gone on too long) found a second job from this, or just gave up on driving because he can’t bring home a grand a week & now feels like a second class citizen compared to the serious earners who is god
Just to update you all … My head was cabbaged with all the difference of opinions but they were all equally entertaining/interesting/informative, so thanks for all your input. I am still with the same company for now, but got a 25p an hour rise. I am still asking around though. Thanks again lads
