Who paid for your digital tachograph card?

The company paid for all ours.

The new 18t wagon (another bloody Iveco :imp: ) thats just turned up has a digital tacho, every other one is still analogue.

me

company paid for it , but want money back if you leave within year, use it all the time as ours are now all digis.

As an agency driver i had to pay for mine

Deesider:
I appreciate that for some folk an outlay of £38 all at once may be a struggle, if you have been unemployed, - or hail from Scotland or the Yorkshire area, for example :stuck_out_tongue: - but I’d say you have to look at it as an investment in your chosen career, (a ‘running cost’, if you like) rather like most of us did when we had to lay out money for our driver training and test fees, however long ago that may have been.

it was like that for me when i passed, i’ve used a good many a time, but i’m sure if i didn’t have one i’d have still got work, but i suppose that it is a small price to pay just to be on the safe side and have more work opportunities.

a number of drivers who i speak to haven’t bothered with them and drive, and fill in a little log book / the back of a disc of joy - not sure how legal this is.

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: 100% illegal

You can only drive a digital tachograph equipped vehicle if you have already been issued with a digital card and cannot use it because it has been lost, stolen or is defective. Under these circumstances you can continue to drive while waiting for the replacement to arrive and you must take a printout at the start and end of each shift.

If you have never been issued with a digital card you cannot drive a vehicle with a digital tachograph under any circumstances, and recording your activities on the back of a chart or in a log book don’t change this.

thought as much, so what happens as regards to driving government vehicles which by law don’t need to have tachos [i.e. bin trucks] fitted with digi tachos ?

agreed. if its direct council, tachos arent used but if its contracted out by thecouncil, tachos are used

my firm paid for ours in aug now they want us to fill a form in saying if we leave within a year of getting the card we have to pay the cost back.
BIit latre asking us to fill them in now got the card now lol

i dont pay for tachos so i dont pay for the card

paid for my own and dont see a problem with it as it belongs to me

Edward Teller:
Me.

Me too.

my boss paid for mine, he also paid for his own as he drives the truck too and he paid for another drivers that we used for holiday cover etc. just in case he needed him to drive my truck which was very unlikely as he prefers not to allow anyone else to drive it at all.
the other driver has now started up with his own truck but my boss will not be asking for his money back because he agreed that he would pay for it whether or not the other driver got to drive my truck.

My thoughts too - Although as an agency driver I really didn’t have a lot of choice. I start full time as an employee on 2nd Jan, but as yet none of the trucks (rigids at any rate) have digital tachos so I won’t be using mine for a while yet.

Carl:

Actually it doesn’t. :stuck_out_tongue:  Just like your driving licence it belongs to the Secretary of State for Transport.

That’s always a good one to throw into the conversation when you hear ‘that’ driver spouting off about how he “ain’t going to let any [zb] look at the data on his card because it [zb] belongs to him and the Data Protection act means they aren’t allowed to look at it.”

Paid for my own in June used it once …comes in handy for eating my yoghurt when I forget mi spoon

  thought it was just me that did that

i paid for my own as well.

`just sent off for mine as was told tescos are having new units in next few months i will pay for it as i am self employed and can go as expences

mr boss man paid for mine when they bought the new truck also bought two other drivers theirs in case i’m on holiday. strange how his mind works as none of the fitters got any. i consider it mine though and he won’t bee getting it back.

Regardless of the fact he paid for it, I think he would be on dodgy ground if he did try to take it from you. It isn’t his to take and if you do need to apply for another one before the current one runs out you have to explain why you need a replacement. I don’t think the boss took it from me because he has the hump I am leaving is one of the options.   The most he could do is try to recover the fee from you, but if he didn’t make it clear he would do that if you left within a certain time frame I don’t think he could even do that.

Company wants us to pay for them as a result no one other than 2 have went and got them (to drive 2 new 56plates), as mentioned before we arent expected to buy paper tachos so why this ,would they like us to pay for the fuel next■■?

Only 2 drivers in our place have them, payed for by them self
as a result when one went on holiday the truck was parked up!!!
as far as im concerned its the companys Responsibility to supply them , its ther trucks they want us to drive ,i went out and got my licence paying my own cash ,never saw them give me anything back !
