Just a quickie for those who have a digital tachograph card.
Did you pay for it out of your own pocket, or did your boss pay for it? I’m going to get one now (I haven’t been asked to, and we do not yet have any vehicles with digital tachos) and I wanted to know if it was normal for the firm to pay up for them?
TM asked me to fill out form he sent it away and must have paid as it arrived a week later only used for a week in a rented truck. no idea tho how it works and what to do with it now
I payed for it myself straight after passing my class c, not long ago.
Not used it yet.
I dare say I’ll be picking Coffeeholics brain on how to use it pretty soon.
Just kidding.
Cheers for the advice!
Dafman:
Work paid after all i dont buy my own Tachos
That’s exactly how I see it.
Having said that, I haven’t actually been asked to get one. I think I will have to wait until I am required to use it before putting the receipt in against expenses.
Company i work for gave all drivers (around 110)the forms, as they were about to do a fleet replacement, we bought them, then they photocopied the card and we got the money back in our wages the next week.
Ive been driving a 54 plate MegaSpace since i started there,(on paper discs) and the TM collered me Friday night and told me to empty my motor out, when i get off holiday next week i will be getting another motor that will run at 4 metres for the continent, will either be getting a Daf 480 Super Space Cab on a 56 plate or an 06 plate M.A.N TGA XXL. I asked for the Daf, but it depends what happens while im off, both the Daf and M.A.N are on digi card, not got a clue how they work but reckon they should be ok.
I paid for my own card.
I prefer it that way - I don’t want to be beholden to anyone.
Cost of card:£38.00, valid for 5 years.
Lets say 240 working days in a year, (round figures, 5 day week, 4 weeks off for your annual holidays, all bank holidays and a few extra days for ‘sickies’.)
£38 divided by 5 divided by 240 equals just over 3 pence per day.
Based on my own hourly basic rate, I would need to work just over 2 minutes to cover my outlay for the card for that complete day.
It takes me longer than that for my walk around check when I start each shift !
I appreciate that for some folk an outlay of £38 all at once may be a struggle, if you have been unemployed, - or hail from Scotland or the Yorkshire area, for example - but I’d say you have to look at it as an investment in your chosen career, (a ‘running cost’, if you like) rather like most of us did when we had to lay out money for our driver training and test fees, however long ago that may have been.
One upside is that you get to drive a shiny new truck because you have a Digi-card and some other drivers who have been with the company longer than yourself have to stick with their older model until they get their own card.
paid for mine and claimed it back through expensises the same month. use it all the time and ive only filled one manual card in for about a month (got to remember to hand it in )
